ABOUT RTBSS

RT Business System Solutions Ltd (RTBSS) is a specialist consultancy and software studio based in South Wales. We help Housing Associations and Local Authorities deliver complex technical and business transformation projects — from data migration and integration to programme delivery and system configuration. Since forming in 2021, we've built a strong reputation for quality, technical expertise, and pragmatic delivery.

Our team of five (soon to be seven) continues to grow carefully and deliberately — hiring people who combine skill with curiosity and care for doing things properly. We're now seeking a talented Technical Consultant to join us.

This is an opportunity to work at the heart of housing-sector transformation projects — and to help design something entirely new: our own housing management software platform.

THE ROLE

As a Technical Consultant, you'll bridge the gap between complex technical requirements and real-world business needs. You'll lead and deliver data-driven solutions — from migrations and integrations to reporting and automation — across a variety of housing-sector systems such as Rubixx, MRI Housing One, and Civica Cx. You'll be responsible for analysing, designing, and implementing technical solutions that are robust, scalable, and maintainable.

The work is varied: some days you'll be deep in SQL scripts, optimising a migration routine or building a data warehouse; other days you'll be leading client workshops, creating documentation, or guiding a go-live cutover. Alongside client delivery, you'll also play a part in developing Frontier Housing — our own cloud based housing management system for smaller providers (under 1,000 assets).

During quieter project periods, you'll collaborate with our in-house development team, helping to design data models, APIs, and integration frameworks that solve the problems housing organisations face today.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Client-Focused System Consulting

  • Lead or support the delivery of technical projects, analysing client systems and business processes to define solutions.
  • Work directly with clients to capture, validate, and document technical and functional requirements.
  • Design scalable, secure, and maintainable data and system architectures.
  • Develop advanced data integration solutions using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or similar ETL tools.
  • Build client-facing reports and dashboards using SSRS, Power BI, or comparable platforms.
  • Guide clients through testing and deployment, ensuring smooth transitions and knowledge transfer.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues during implementation or live operation.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and ongoing technical support to client teams.

SQL Development and Data Engineering

  • Design and implement ETL pipelines and automated data flows between systems.
  • Deliver accurate, efficient data migration projects with a focus on data integrity and auditability.
  • Optimise queries and indexes to improve performance and reliability.
  • Develop or maintain data warehouse solutions that support analytics and reporting.
  • Collaborate with in-house developers to embed your data solutions into software systems.
  • Conduct peer code reviews and enforce internal development standards.
  • Keep pace with new tools, data platforms, and best practices to continually improve our approach.

Product Co-Development (Frontier Housing)

  • Collaborate with the RTBSS software development team to design database schemas and integration layers for Frontier Housing.
  • Translate housing-sector pain points into structured data models, API definitions, and workflows.
  • Test and validate new features and interfaces to ensure they meet real-world client expectations.
  • Contribute to product documentation and help shape our long-term data strategy.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server and relational database technologies.
  • Advanced T-SQL proficiency, including complex query writing, stored procedures, and performance tuning.
  • Proven experience delivering data migration, integration, or ETL solutions.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and architecture.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve intricate technical issues.
  • Clear communicator, able to explain complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience producing clear technical documentation, data dictionaries, and system diagrams.
  • Adaptable and proactive — comfortable balancing multiple projects and learning new tools quickly.
  • A passion for clean design, data quality, and continuous improvement.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Proficiency in an object-oriented programming language (ideally C#).
  • Familiarity with REST API design and consumption.
  • Exposure to Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, or Power BI Service.
  • Knowledge of Housing Management Systems or public-sector software implementations.
  • Awareness of data protection, GDPR, and security standards.
  • Experience mentoring junior consultants or collaborating across multi-disciplinary teams.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Starting Salary between £30,000 – £40,000, depending on experience.
  • Hybrid working — 2–3 days per week in our Cwmbran base, remainder remote.
  • A genuine opportunity to influence the next generation of housing management software.
  • Varied work across data, integration, and product innovation projects.
  • A collaborative, supportive culture that values learning, curiosity, and craftsmanship.
  • Career progression opportunities as RTBSS grows, with pathways into senior technical and consultancy roles.
