Mind in Somerset has a formal partnership with Navigate Charity and Encompass Southwest known as "Wis£rmoney". The partnership was formed in 2012. Wis£rmoney operates across Devon and Somerset providing services for people who are experiencing poverty, hardship and financial exclusion.

Our projects and partnerships are by funded by Charitable Grants and Donations to deliver financial inclusion and advice services across rural districts in Somerset and Devon. We aim to improve the lives and financial wellbeing of individuals and families and to strengthen the resilience of the individuals and communities we work with, build community cohesion and reduce social isolation.

BGET

BGET is a project delivered by the Wis£rmoney partnership and funded by the British Gas Energy Trust. The BGET Project works in rural and remote rural towns and villages across the county of Somerset for the prevention and relief of poverty, hardship and financial exclusion through the provision of specialist education and advice services to families and individuals with multiple and complex needs.

Job Purpose

The post-holder will support individuals in the County of Somerset with mental health support needs; facilitating initial engagement and supporting clients through the debt and energy advice journey.

Key work areas and tasks:

Casework

  • To provide support to clients who experience mental health issues.
  • To provide advice, practical support, guidance and signposting that focuses on:
  • Fuel poverty, energy efficiency issues and assisting the client to switching suppliers
  • Welfare benefits advice (Contact DWP on behalf of the client)
  • Form filling including accessing grants
  • Developing referral networks/promoting partnership working
  • Looking at the client's needs from a person-centred approach to help improve their overall wellbeing including housing, digital connection, engagement with their community and access to health services
  • Advocating on the client's behalf with various statutory or voluntary organisations
  • Multi-agency working
  • To assist and support clients through the advice process including, where necessary, collating paperwork, empowering them to contact necessary agencies.
  • Support specialist advisers through joint visits with advisors.
  • Maintain case records for the purpose of continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring and report preparation using AdvicePro case management system.

Project

  • Develop and attend steering group meetings as required.
  • Monitor progress against the project plan on an ongoing basis and provide reports on agreed objectives to the project steering group.
  • Collect, collate and present project monitoring and evaluation data.

Other duties and responsibilities

  • Uphold the aims and principles of Mind in Somerset & partner agencies and its equal opportunities policies.
  • Maintain effective and efficient administration systems for the delivery of the project.
  • Use IT for statistical recording, record keeping and document production.
  • Participate fully in the life of Mind in Somerset, attending workers meetings, internal planning events etc. as agreed with line manager.
  • Abide by health and safety guidelines and share responsibility for own safety and that of colleagues.
  • Carry out any other appropriate tasks requested by the manager, to ensure the effective delivery and development of the service.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education/ Training

  • Degree or equivalent or demonstrable knowledge of mental health support work

Experience

Experience (within the last 5 years) of:

  • Mental health and wellbeing community outreach work
  • Knowledge & experience of mental health support in the community and financial literacy
  • Ordered approach to casework and an ability and willingness to follow and develop agreed procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to collect, analyse and present project data and monitor progress against objectives.
  • Experience of establishing and developing partnerships with other agencies and joint working.
  • Ability to sensitively empower and engage with adults who have had poor experiences of services.
  • An ability and willingness to work both on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Ability to self-motivate and organise a diverse workload.
  • Ability to use IT applications to record statistics, produce documents and training materials and keep accurate project records.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the aims and principles of Mind and the partner agencies and their equal opportunities policies.
  • Able to demonstrate non-judgmental practice
  • Understanding of safeguarding risks
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Commitment to GDPR.
