Role Overview

As a Support Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will provide guidance, encouragement, and practical support to help them develop life skills, build positive relationships, and achieve their personal goals. This role requires a compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to foster growth and resilience in young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support & Guidance:
  • Build trusting and supportive relationships with young people.
  • Assist young people in developing social skills, emotional regulation, and independence.
  • Provide practical support with daily routines, education, and recreational activities.
  • Care & Well-Being:
  • Promote the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of young people.
  • Actively contribute to care planning, ensuring that individual needs are met.
  • Identify and manage risks, following safeguarding procedures as needed.
  • Engagement & Development:
  • Encourage participation in educational, vocational, and therapeutic programs.
  • Support young people in building confidence and self-esteem.
  • Facilitate activities that promote positive experiences and personal development.
  • Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with colleagues, families, and external agencies to provide cohesive support.
  • Communicate effectively within the team to share updates, observations, and insights.
  • Attend regular team meetings, training, and supervision sessions.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications:
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent (preferred not essential).
  • Willingness to undertake additional training.
  • Experience:
  • Experience working with children and young people with SEMH needs (preferred not essential).
  • Understanding of safeguarding and trauma-informed practices.
  • Skills & Attributes:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to inspire and motivate young people.
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach to challenges.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From £25,000.00 per year + up to £7500 a year sleep in rate and available overtime.

Area : Across the Doncaster & Gainsborough Area

Shift:

  • Fixed shift pattern (Average 10 shifts per month = Full time)

Due to the nature of the role, applicants must have a good level of physical fitness to safely participate in physical interventions where necessary, in line with our Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) framework. This may include supporting young people during crisis situations, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all individuals involved.

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK at the time of application. We are unable to support Skilled Worker or other visa applications for this position.
