London ECY AL, United Kingdom British Red Cross Full time £68,905 - £70,000 per year

Head of Movement Building

Location: Flexible across the UK

Hours: 35 per week (willing to discuss flexibility around working pattern)

12 Months Fixed Term Contract

Salary Range: £68,905 - £70,000 (plus inner London weighting, £3,344, if applicable) per annum

British Red Cross are on a mission to ignite a people-powered humanitarian movement, so that more people are resilient and ready to help -are you the bold leader to make it happen? As Head of Movement Building, you'll spearhead our vision to inspire millions across the UK to embrace humanity and take action.

You'll directly lead a small expert unit, and work across the organisation to shape a values-driven approach that attracts new audiences and deepens lifelong engagement with British Red Cross and our mission.

This is your chance to:

  • Build a national movement rooted in hope and action
  • Lead with purpose, influence across teams, and drive strategic change
  • Grow impact — in breadth, depth, and duration — for those who give their time to our cause

The work you do with the Red Cross will play a crucial role in advancing our mission to help people prepare for, respond to and cover from crisis. Are you ready to join our cause and help us be here for humanity?

Wondering about what a day in the life of our Head of Movement Building looks like? Here's what you'll be delivering:

You'll shape a bold movement strategy that connects people to our humanitarian mission, inspiring hope and building a large community who are resilient and ready to help when crisis strikes.

You'll lead innovative initiatives that connect new UK audiences to our humanitarian values, build a vibrant movement community, and inspire meaningful action.

You'll craft a bold, strategic narrative that aligns with our mission and drive external engagement to position the British Red Cross as relevant every day, not just in crisis.

You'll strengthen our 'take action' offer through strategic partnerships and collaboration across volunteering, youth engagement, innovation, operations and fundraising.

You'll horizon-scan the sector for trends in mobilisation and engagement and apply insights to evolve our approach. With clear KPIs and feedback loops, you'll track impact, understand our audiences, and optimise their experience, using sector insights and real-time feedback.

You'll collaborate across teams to align priorities, maximise existing assets, and deliver high-impact activations (both digital and in-person) that drive long-term engagement. You'll lead and align cross-functional teams to embed resilience-building into our movement vision.

To be a successful Head of Movement Building you'll need the following:

  • Ability to translate strategic vision into accessible, impactful initiatives.
  • Experience in cultivating engagement and belonging around a collective mission, across different audiences and groups.
  • An inclusive and action-focused leadership style. The ability to bring cross-organisational teams together to influence, problem-solve and deliver the best results.
  • Experience of leading change or rolling out a new area of work in a complex organisation, including strong influencing skills to take people at all levels with you.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to inspire, influence and engage internal and external audiences.
  • Experience designing and delivering innovative, inclusive and blended (digital and in-person) engagement programmes and campaigns.
  • A self-starter attitude; proactive and highly organised. Ability to work under pressure and often with changing priorities.

Interested? Closing date for applications is 23.59 on Thursday 20th November 2025. Interviews expected to take place during the week commencing Monday 1st December 2025.

In return for your commitment and expertise, you'll get:

  • Flexible working: Remote and hybrid working, flexitime, compressed hours, and job sharing.
  • Holidays: 36 days annual leave (including bank holidays) + option to buy 5 extra days.
  • Pension scheme: Up to 6% contributory pension.

  • Discounts: Blue Light Discount Card, Tickets For Good & employee benefits platform..
  • Wellbeing Support: Peer Supporters, CiC (EAP) & Headspace App.
