Hudson River Trading (HRT) is seeking a driven Data Center Engineer familiar with financial data center operations to join our Trading Infrastructure team in Slough. In this role, you will be responsible for logistics and inventory management, as well as building and maintaining trading infrastructure to ensure reliable and highly serviceable data centers that enable our global trading.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of financial data center infrastructure, including power, cooling, and operational nuances, a passion for new technologies, and a focus on maintaining an organized environment. This role offers a unique opportunity to travel, troubleshoot, and make a significant impact on HRT's data center infrastructure, ensure its stability and efficiency, and work with cutting-edge technology to build and extend our competitive advantages.

Responsibilities

  • Support and improve inventory management and logistics within regional warehouses and data centers
  • Assist with hardware forecasting and procurement
  • Plan and oversee remote hands tasks in remote locations
  • Travel to data centers in the Greater London area and EMEA region and implement planned changes and break-fix tasks
  • Contribute to aligning and improving documentation and data center standards
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external partners to ensure infrastructure availability

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of practical experience in high-availability or financial data centers
  • Basic understanding of data center infrastructure, power distribution, and rack/device cooling principles
  • Knowledge of copper and fibre cabling standards and nuances
  • Ability to assemble servers from scratch using components
  • Ability to use hand tools and lift up to 20 kg of equipment
  • Must be able to drive and possess a full UK driving licence (or equivalent)
  • Strong self-management skills, independent work ethic, and an ability to efficiently manage multiple priorities in a time-sensitive environment
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn and apply new skills quickly
  • Understanding of power planning and ability to calculate usage and plan capacity is preferred
  • Understanding of optical transceivers, copper, fiber cables systems and standards, and associated troubleshooting skills is preferred
  • Procurement and inventory management experience is preferred
  • Linux bash experience is preferred
