This is a rewarding opportunity for a qualified social worker with experience of supporting children and families to join us and help make a positive impact on the lives of people across Leicester.
You'll have the chance to make a genuine difference every day, helping children and families find hope, healing and strength to rebuild their lives after trauma. Few roles offer such a powerful chance to see the positive impact of your work so directly.
And with the flexibility of a part-time schedule, you'll enjoy a balanced role that allows you to contribute your expertise while maintaining the time and space you need for your own wellbeing.
The Role
As a Therapeutic Social Worker, you will provide specialist, trauma-informed support to children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse.
You will hold a small, time-limited caseload, offering tailored, systemic therapeutic support. This will include interventions, such as psycho-educative work with families, to help them understand the effects of trauma, and support to help them better manage trauma symptoms.
Working collaboratively with external partners, you will assess needs, design personalised support plans and guide children and families on their journey toward recovery and resilience.
Additionally, you will:
Assist with screening new referrals and identifying potential risks
Undertake comprehensive and risk assessments to inform support plans
Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records
Keep up to date with current practice and policy developments
About You
To be considered as a Therapeutic Social Worker, you will need:
At least one year's experience of working with children and young people, preferably with experience of working therapeutically
Extensive knowledge and understanding of the needs of children and young people who are experiencing emotional trauma
A sound theoretical understanding of the impact of child sexual abuse, trauma, child development, attachment, and resilience
An understanding and awareness of a range of interventions and models of working with children and young people and their parents and carers that social workers can use to respond to individual needs and circumstances, including individual and group work programmes
A recognised professional qualification in social work and current registration with Social Work England
A full driving licence, vehicle business insurance and access to a roadworthy vehicle
Appointments are subject to Family Action receiving a satisfactory disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service – this post requires a DBS Enhanced Children's DBS Level check.
Other organisations may call this role Children's Social Worker, Therapeutic Practitioner, Trauma Recovery Social Worker, or Family Support Social Worker.
The closing date for this role is 23rd November 2025.
