As
Planning Lawyer
, you'll play a key role advising on all aspects of
planning law and policy
, managing your own varied caseload, and working on complex, high-profile planning matters. You'll be part of a supportive, professional team that values collaboration, development, and delivering excellent public service.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide clear, high-quality
    legal advice
    on planning law, policy, and procedures.
  • Draft and negotiate
    Section 106 Agreements
    and other planning-related documents.
  • Represent the Council at
    planning committees
    , public inquiries, and hearings.
  • Work closely with Planning Officers, Members, and external partners to support sound, lawful decision-making.
  • Assist colleagues and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Legal Services team.

About you

You'll bring:

  • A current practising certificate as a
    Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive
    .
  • Strong working knowledge of
    planning law
    and local government procedures.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence advising Members and Officers at all levels, including in public meetings.
  • The ability to balance competing priorities and deliver pragmatic, solution-focused advice.
