You'll be assisting a bright, engaging young man in his 30s who uses a special powered wheelchair due to a complex physical disability. He lives with a limiting condition, and your calm, caring presence will help him maintain his mobility needs.

This is a deeply rewarding role, centred around gentle, respectful, and dignified care in his own home - a peaceful, supportive property where he lives with his mother.

The position is especially well-suited for mothers of a similar age, with like-minded interests, and who meets the insurance requirements for driving the Motability Scheme vehicle.

About the Role

We're seeking a reliable, empathetic, and soft-spoken individual to provide direct care in a calm, well-maintained, adapted home.You'll need initiative, compassion, a smart professional appearance, and the ability to support a varied daily routine with dignity and care.

Driving is a key part of this role, so genuine interest and confidence behind the wheel are essential. You'll be fully insured to drive the service user's adapted vehicle while transporting him.

Option 1 – Ideal in School/Nursery Hours + Just Two Sundays a Month

• Wednesday: 09:00 – 16:30
• Friday: 09:00 – 16:30
• Sunday: 14:00 – 20:00

Option 2 – Ideal in School/Nursery Hours + Weekly Sundays

• Wednesday: 09:00 - 15:00
• Friday: 09:00 - 15:00
• Sunday: 14:00 - 20:00

We're open to some flexibility in shift times and hours, including Sundays, while ensuring the service user's needs are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities:

• Promote independence and build confidence
• Drive the adapted vehicle safely
• Assist with personal care (toileting, bathing, dressing)
• Transport to essential medical appointments
• Carry out light household tasks
• Run errands and light bits of shopping
• Accompany on outings and daily activities

Daily Outings May Include:

• Scenic drives and local seaside towns
• Café visits, garden centres, and retail parks
• Trips to museums, zoos, and family-friendly attractions
• Gentle walks in parks and along the coast
• Seasonal visits to markets, fairs, and festive displays

Requirements:

• A genuine love of driving – this is essential
• Clean UK driving licence and medically fit to drive
• Physically fit and proactive - ready to support daily routines
• Willing to complete a paid DBS check and training
• Reliable, organised, and kind-hearted

Location Requirements

Applicants must live within a 12-mile radius of Accrington, including areas such as Blackburn and Rossendale. Applications outside this radius will not be considered.
