The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role as part of NHS Scotland providing Blood Transfusion support for patients throughout Scotland. The Post
The post is based in the SNBTS laboratory at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. The role involves general laboratory duties rotating through the various departments within the laboratory. The departments include; Sample Reception, Blood Component Logistics, Crossmatch and Driving.
Working in teams and with staff of various disciplines a BMSW will be communicating with staff of all grades to ensure safe and timely transfusions for patients.
Suitable applicants are invited to join a hard working team in a modern Blood Bank Laboratory which operates 24/7/365.
The Candidate
We are currently looking for 2 reliable people to provide vital support for the Biomedical Scientist staff in our busy clinical laboratory, please include any experience of previous laboratory/science working or training in your application.
The successful candidates should have a flexible approach to work and must participate in the out of hours shift system which includes rotational weekend working.
You will be computer literate as excellent data inputting skills are essential.
As you will be required to drive between external sites to transport blood components, you must hold a full UK driving licence that covers
manual
transmission vehicles.
The successful candidates will be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who have lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
Location and Working Pattern:
The post is based at the SNBTS Transfusion Laboratory on Level 5 of Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. As this is a laboratory based role there is, unfortunately, no facility for home or hybrid working.
Current shift pattern consists of;
Day Shift Monday Friday,
Back Shift Monday Friday (1 Week in 8)
Weekend Shift Saturday Sunday (1 week in 8)
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
