Birmingham is undergoing a bold and ambitious transformation in Adult Social Care. We're reshaping how we support individuals and families - placing people at the heart of everything we do, and building a system that is inclusive, responsive, and future-ready.

This is an exciting time to join us. We're looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking leader to take on the pivotal role of Head of Service for Safeguarding. If you're energised by change, motivated by impact, and passionate about protecting the rights and wellbeing of vulnerable adults, we want to hear from you.

You'll lead the strategic and operational delivery of adult safeguarding services, ensuring compliance with statutory duties under the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Human Rights Act 1998. You'll also play a key role in shaping multi-agency partnerships and embedding a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

We're looking for someone who's ready to lead with confidence, clarity, and compassion. You'll bring:

•    Proven safeguarding expertise - you understand the complexity and know how to lead through it

•    Professional credibility - you're a qualified social worker, registered with Social Work England

•    Leadership that delivers - you've led complex services and driven meaningful change

•    Strategic insight - you know the legislation, but you also know how to apply it in real-world practice

•    Collaborative strength - you build strong partnerships and communicate with impact

•    A values-driven approach - you champion human rights and ensure the voice of the person is central to everything you do

At Birmingham City Council, safeguarding is everyone's business. We're committed to protecting vulnerable adults and promoting their wellbeing - and we're building a system that reflects that.

You'll join a passionate, forward-thinking team with the chance to shape services that make a real difference.

We offer:

•    A supportive and inclusive working environment

•    Opportunities for professional growth and career progression

•    Flexible working arrangements

•    Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme

Please upload an up-to-date CV and Personal Statement via the attachments part of your application.  The Personal Statement should outline how you meet the essential criteria for the role through your personal qualities, skills and experience and include your motivation for applying to the post.  Note the Personal Statement should be no more than 1500 words.  Unfortunately, we cannot consider any applications without a CV and Personal Statement attached

We want to ensure your recruitment journey with us is a positive and equitable one, so please let us know if there are any reasonable adjustments, additional support, accessibility needs, or if there is any way in which we can support you through your application.

We welcome applications from people with caring responsibilities and flexible working options will be considered.
