My client is one of the largest financial institutions headquartered in Japan, with an established presence across all consumer and corporate banking businesses. Through its subsidiaries and affiliates, they offer a diverse range of financial services, including commercial banking, leasing, securities, credit card, consumer finance and other services.

They are looking for a Information Governance Lead to join the EMEA Data Management Group on an initial 6 month contract. You will be working Monday to Friday, standard office hours with the occasional out of hours requirement in line with business needs.

Purpose of Job

The Information Governance Lead is a critical role within the data office and wider Group. You will leverage your knowledge and expertise to lead Information Governance support and services. The role will interface with the SMEs across the organisation and work with the Director of Information Governance to deliver the IG strategy aligned to the bank's business strategy and core Business As Usual workstreams

Aligned to the strategy and business priorities, this role will work closely with teams across the EMEA Data Office, IT, Legal, Compliance and Change Management functions to shape IG for EMEA. The role will support the breadth of BAU and project work across the Information Governance Team, with specific responsibilities for providing data privacy, records management and data classification expertise. The role also requires an ability to educate and convince stakeholders at all levels on the essential nature of this role, as well as a clear understanding and articulation of the need for IG controls and the benefits they bring.

You must be willing to challenge the status quo in an empathic manner, while helping the wider Data Office team to have an ethos of openness and transparency that will help us nurture real business innovation.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Advise the business on IG management enquiries
  • Review and advise the business on the completion of Privacy Risk Assessments and the implementation of mitigating measures
  • Lead on the annual and ongoing review and revisions of documentation including policies and privacy notices
  • Lead or participate in information governance-related projects which include data classification and records management capabilities
  • Conduct IG horizon-scanning for emerging issues and gap analyses
  • Advise the business on the IG implications and regulator reporting requirements of incidents and breaches
  • Create and deliver training materials
  • Support activities to implement records retention processes and manage unstructured information across the organisation
  • Support the ongoing and bi-annual processes to complete the organisations Information Asset Register

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge data privacy and records management regulation across EMEA
  • Experience of creating and implementing IG policies and standards
  • Understanding of broader information governance subject areas including records management and records retention
  • Experience of providing pragmatic and clear advice to the business and conducting risk assessments in large multi-national organisations.
  • Drafting and revising policies, processes, training, and guidance
  • Good at building relationships across business areas and challenging existing practices that may present a compliance risk
  • Identifying process improvements and delivering change
