This role will be based in London, UK and you are required to have the necessary right to work details prior to application.

The purpose of the Senior Underwriter is to underwrite and contribute to the development of a sustainable and profitable International Property Treaty portfolio in alignment with the company's business plan, across all appropriate legal entities. 

Job Responsibilities & Competence
Key Accountabilities

•    To underwrite and price risks that are within scope of the International Property Treaty portfolio business plan.

•    Demonstrate a superior understanding of risks and exposures relevant to the International Property treaty sector, non-proportional and proportional treaties.

•    Liaise with brokers to further the profile and to achieve superior positioning on risks that are within scope of the International Property Treaty portfolio.

•    To take ownership of underwriting activities related to the renewal and new business portfolio.

•    Contribute to improving the performance of the team by serving as a subject matter expert and aiding in the development of team members. 

•    Participate in the development and implementation of the property treaty marketing and branding strategy.

•    Utilise all available underwriting tools, such as pricing models, exposure management, and catastrophe modelling.

•    Identify, recommend and develop new business opportunities within our distribution channels (London Market and International broker networks).

•    Support the Head of London Property in expanding property treaty operations.

•    Represent the Company through travel and marketing initiatives to promote the company brand for both new and existing business prospects.

•    Meet group standards for risk analysis, risk selection, technical pricing, and renewal rate monitoring.

•    Ensure compliance with the company's best practices and applicable Lloyd's and/or local regulations.

•    Report to Management when needed regarding the progress of the property treaty portfolio for business plans and budgets.

•    Monitor claim developments within the property treaty portfolio and coordinate with the claims team as needed to ease appropriate claim settlements.

•    Contribute to the monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting of underwriting results as needed.

Qualifications and Capabilities

•    ACII qualified and/or degree level education.

•    Strong knowledge of general insurance and reinsurance principles, with emphasis on international treaty structures.

•    Willingness to continue developing knowledge of insurance and related issues through formal and informal learning.

•    Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers. 

•    Ability to prioritise and organise workload effectively.

•    Attention to detail.

•    Proven collaborator, able to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.

•    Adaptable and flexible in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly.

•    Demonstrated experience in identifying and implementing process improvements and best practices.

•    Proficiency in underwriting software, pricing models, and catastrophe modelling platforms.

Experience (describe relevant work experience, if required)

•    Relevant treaty underwriting and/or broking experience ideally with exposure to international property treaty portfolios.

•    Ability to demonstrate technical capability, experience, and understanding of the property sector in a treaty context (catastrophe, risk, and proportional).

•    Proven ability to develop new business and maintain strong broker relationships.

•    Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a team.
