Job Overview

Cornerways Homes is seeking compassionate, resilient, and dedicated Waking Night Residential Care Workers to join our team supporting children and young people aged 11–17 in our small, family-style residential homes.

You will play a vital role in helping young people develop confidence, stability, and independence. Our focus is on providing high-quality care within a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent care and emotional support to children and young people in line with their individual care plans.
  • Promote positive routines, boundaries, and daily structure to create a sense of safety and belonging.
  • Support with day-to-day tasks such as meals, personal care (where needed), school preparation, and activities.
  • Encourage learning, independence, and positive life skills through therapeutic interactions and role modelling.
  • Manage challenging behaviour using approved behaviour support techniques.
  • Maintain accurate, professional records and contribute to care planning and review meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, social workers, education providers, and other professionals.
  • Participate in key work sessions and ensure young people's voices are heard and respected.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children in your care, in line with statutory and organisational requirements.
  • Support young people to attend appointments, education, and community activities.

Experience and Skills

  • Experience working with children or young people in a residential, educational, or social care setting (preferred).
  • Understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and trauma-informed care.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and manage challenging situations effectively.
  • Relevant qualifications such as Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it).
  • Full UK driving licence (preferred).
  • First aid training and knowledge of medication administration are advantageous.
