Support Worker / Care Assistant (2:1 Package)

About the role

Join a small, consistent team supporting a 19-year-old young woman with global developmental delay, epilepsy, and a physical disability to live well at home and in the community. You'll provide compassionate, person-centred care, promote choice and independence, and help her enjoy meaningful daily routines and activities.

What you'll do

• Provide respectful personal care and daily living support (washing, dressing, toileting, menstrual care), always preserving dignity and choice.
• Support safe mobility, positioning and transfers (e.g., wheelchair use, hoisting and manual handling) and encourage gentle physio/exercise plans as advised.
• Follow the individual epilepsy care plan: observe for early signs, record seizures, provide reassurance during recovery, and administer rescue medication when trained and authorised.
• Prepare simple, healthy meals and snacks; promote structured, balanced choices (for example, chicken salad wraps, fruit, yoghurt and vegetables) and support hydration.
• Plan and take part in enjoyable activities at home and in the community (crafts, music, sensory activities, short walks, appointments, outings), adapting pace and environment to reduce anxiety and sensory overload.
• Communicate using clear, simple language and visuals (e.g., Now & Next boards, symbols, PECS) so she can understand, choose and express preferences.
• Work closely with the family and professionals (education, health, therapy teams) to keep support consistent with the care plan.
• Safeguard wellbeing at all times, follow policies and procedures, and keep accurate, timely records in the electronic care system (daily notes, food/fluids, seizures, medication, incidents, outcomes).

• Confidence to follow care plans and risk assessments, and to escalate concerns promptly.
• Team spirit—you'll work closely with family, colleagues and professionals, and also be comfortable working lone shifts.
• Good organisation and attention to detail for safe record-keeping.

Helpful experience (we can train you)

• Supporting someone with learning disabilities, epilepsy, or a physical disability.
• Personal care, moving and handling, and use of equipment (hoist, wheelchair).
• Using visual communication tools (PECS, symbols, Now & Next boards).

Training and qualifications

• Health and Social Care (NVQ/Level 2 or 3) is welcome but not essential.
• We provide full induction and ongoing training: epilepsy awareness and rescue medication, medication administration, safeguarding, manual handling, infection prevention and control, positive behaviour support, communication and person-centred practice.

Hours and pay

• Flexible shifts including afternoons/evenings and some weekends (for example, 4pm–8pm), with additional hours possible by agreement.
