At Oakhaven Hospice, we believe that every moment matters. Our 400+ volunteers play a vital role in helping us deliver compassionate care and support to patients and their families across the New Forest, Totton, and Waterside communities including within our retail shops.
We're looking for an experienced and passionate Volunteer Services Manager to provide leadership, vision, and direction for our volunteering function. You'll ensure that our volunteers are recruited, supported, valued, and empowered to make a real difference every day.
About the Role
As our Volunteer Services Manager, you will:
- Provide operational leadership for volunteering across Oakhaven Hospice.
- Develop and implement effective recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies to ensure a positive and rewarding volunteer experience.
- Support and advise line managers to help them recruit, manage, and retain volunteers within their teams.
- Foster a culture that values and recognises volunteers as an integral part of Oakhaven's mission.
- Review and enhance volunteering policies, procedures, and systems to ensure best practice.
- Champion volunteering both internally and externally, promoting the benefits of community engagement and partnership.
About You
You will bring:
- Proven experience in managing volunteer services or people-focused programmes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others and build strong relationships with volunteers, staff and external stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and leadership abilities, capable of planning, prioritising and delivering volunteer programmes effectively.
- Proven experience in volunteer management or people-focused programmes, including recruitment, training,
- Ability to develop and implement volunteer strategies, policies, and procedures that support the organisation's mission and enhance volunteer engagement.
- Experience in coaching, mentoring, and supporting managers and volunteers, ensuring a positive and inclusive environment that encourages growth and recognition.
- Proficient in using digital tools and systems for volunteer management, scheduling, and reporting.
- Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to respond sensitively to volunteer or organisational challenges.
