This post is an exciting opportunity to be part of the North London scheme for the National Institute for Health Research Inspiring Students into Research Programme (INSIGHT) at the School of Health and Medical Sciences. This role will sit within the Health Services Research and Management division, and will work closely with the programme director of the Master of Research (MRes) and other members of the NIHR INSIGHT North London team at City St George's, University of London and Queen Mary University of London.

The postholder will be the point of contact for all student applications to the INSIGHT programme. The postholder will co-ordinate internships across the participating universities, and manage applications to the North London INSIGHT Research Masters studentships and all joint training offers within the Masters programmes. The post will initially be at 0.4 FTE, and from 1st April 2027 will be at 0.2 FTE for the required co-ordination of the final part-time students of the scheme, including managing joint training provision between Queen Mary University of London and City and collecting student/ graduate outcome data.

Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate the planning, organisation, and publicity for all engagement activities across the partners, including working with our partners to organise dates and speakers, organising internship mentors/ hosts and managing applications to the cross-partner internship scheme.
  • Identify, collate and maintain details of students affiliated to the organisation
  • Be the main point of contact for all studentship-related queries
  • Advise applicants on eligibility criteria and application procedures.
  • To organise events and networking opportunities to promote the scheme

Other duties

  • To help maintain the INSIGHT website
  • Co-ordinate arrangements for a variety of meetings and symposia, internal and external.
  • Obtain information from staff for input into reports
  • Build productive working relationships with relevant University staff and external partners.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by line manager.
Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential:

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant field or equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential:

  • Administrative experience, ideally gained in a University or the NHS.
  • Understanding of health and social care professions e.g. through work or volunteering in the NHS or other organisations.
  • Experience of organising events, conferences, symposia or other similar activities.
  • Evidence of advancing your knowledge and understanding of diversity issues (e.g. through organisational training or informal learning).

Desirable:

  • Evidence of contributing to the delivery of cultural change in the furtherance of the principles of equality, equity, and inclusion.

Skills and Abilities

Essential:

  • Initiative driven, self motivated and able to work independently to identify areas of improvement and to implement remedial action.
  • Excellent IT skills including use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and internet research skills.
  • Ability to liaise confidently and tactfully with a range of stakeholders (e.g. academic staff, students, external funding bodies).
  • Flexible and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to relate to individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritise own workload to ensure that deadlines and targets are met.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable:

  • Ability to acquire knowledge of complex information quickly.
