Newcastle Undergraduate Clinical Teaching Fellow
2 weeks ago
Looking for something a little different? We invite applications for two Clinical Teaching Fellow posts within our friendly and enthusiastic undergraduate teaching team based on the doorstep of the magnificent Lake District.
The undergraduate team at the Cumberland Infirmary are responsible for delivering teaching to around one hundred students spanning years one through to five of the Newcastle University MBBS course.
The posts will commence August 2026 for a fixed term period of 12 months with the option to extend for a further 12 months subject to negotiation with the Undergraduate Programme Director and will be based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.
It goes almost without saying that with the Lake District on the doorstep there are ample opportunities for a variety of leisure activities. Students and faculty are often to be found hiking, fell running, paddle boarding, mountain biking and swimming their way around Cumbria in their spare time.
Full registration with the GMC and completion of the UK Foundation Programme are minimum requirements.
Teaching is a major component of the role with time in the post being divided between undergraduate education and a specialty area negotiated with the candidate at the time of commencement in post.
The timetable will necessarily remain flexible as the teaching commitment varies throughout the academic year. However, overall, eight sessions (half days) per week will be allocated to teaching or teaching preparation and two sessions to the postholder's chosen specialty.
As a Clinical Teaching Fellow at NCIC you will have a responsibility to help co-ordinate and deliver the Newcastle Undergraduate Medical Education Programme together with other members of the Undergraduate Team.
As the courses are very patient-centred and practical in nature, you will be required to assist in the recruitment and co-ordination of patients for teaching sessions. You will participate in teaching medical students across all years of the MBBS course.
At NCIC, we have an ambition to deliver outstanding healthcare services to the population of North Cumbria. The Trust is committed to creating a centre of excellence in providing rural and remote healthcare and provides a wide range of community and acute services throughout our county.
