SHAK is a dog sanctuary (Registered charity ) based to the north of Morpeth, Northumberland. Providing sanctuary and potential rehoming to dogs who would otherwise be facing euthanasia.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for somebody special to join our team in caring for the dogs nobody else wants.
FULL TIME Canine Welfare Assistant.
The position is for an initial 3 months (Opportunity to extend)
We are looking for a passionate individual committed to animal welfare and morally invested in our cause. The successful candidate will need to be physically fit, hard working, flexible, a strong team player, but able to work under their own initiative and alongside our small team of staff and volunteers.
They will be able to see past the traumas and suffering our dogs have suffered previously, viewing them as individuals and appreciating their quirks, with motivation to make their lives better.
The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in hands on learning with behaviourally complex dogs, dealing with stressful situations which may occur and willing to be trained in every part of the job.
It is important they understand how lucky they are to be one of the very few people some of our dogs will ever trust.
The hours are 8-4 on 5 days between Monday and Sunday (to be confirmed) including bank holidays, Christmas etc. Wage is National Minimum Wage.
The role requires working outside in all weathers. Previous experience of working with dogs, either paid or unpaid is preferred.
Due to the location of the kennels, own transport is essential.
Job Description
Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to:
*Cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining the hygiene and cleanliness of the kennels, exercising areas and general work areas.
*Safe handling and exercising of the dogs in a controlled manner, as directed by kennel manager.
*Providing warm, clean, sleeping areas
*Reporting any signs of illness, injury or hazard.
*Following all health and safety and kennel operating procedures.
*General housekeeping as appropriate.
*Attend any staff meetings as required.
*Any other duties required to ensure the efficient running of the kennels.
