Your Sanctuary

Domestic Abuse Helpline Advisor*

£25,750 per annum

36 hours per week Monday to Friday plus occasional on-call responsibilities on a rota basis for which an additional shift allowance is paid. Please note that the helpline is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and therefore the working hours are not able to be varied. The role is not suitable for remote working apart from on a limited basis.

*Due to the nature of the role, this post is open to female applicants only and is exempt under Schedule 9 Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

Your Sanctuary is a Surrey based charity which provides specialist support to women, men and children affected by domestic abuse. We are very proud of our helpline and online chat service through which we offer both practical and emotional support and are now looking for a Helpline Advisor to champion the delivery and development of this service.

This is a demanding and interesting role where you will be covering a daily helpline shift as well as training and supporting a team of volunteers, reviewing and updating policies, and looking for ways of enhancing the service we provide. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to our service users. You will need to have:

  • Experience of supporting or communicating with individuals affected by trauma, either via a helpline or over the phone (such as in a hospital environment/GP surgery or on an emergency helpline)
  • The ability to communicate clearly, calmly and effectively over the phone.
  • Strong IT and organisational skills.
  • An understanding of trauma informed support.
  • Experience of training and supporting volunteers.
  • A full UK driving licence and car that can be used for business purposes.

In return we can offer a stimulating, supportive working environment and opportunities for training and development. We also provide 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, a contributory pension scheme and an employee assistance programme.

The post is for 36 hours per week Monday to Friday. Successful applicants must live within maximum 45 minutes driving distance from our offices in Woking so that occasional emergency on call rota responsibilities can be fulfilled in the rare event of a call-out for urgent support purposes. The role is based at our head office.

A full job description and person specification is available on the Your Sanctuary website. Please send through a CV along with a covering letter explaining how your skills and experience meets our requirements.

Your Sanctuary is committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful and equitable environment for all individuals associated with our organisation.

People with lived experience of domestic abuse or other trauma can be attracted to this work through a desire to give back and help others. It is vital that candidates are sufficiently healed from their own experience to be able to provide empathetic, resilient, robust, and trauma informed support for survivors at Your Sanctuary. Please carefully consider your own suitability when making an application.

NO AGENCIES PLEASE.
