The Residential Support Worker (Residential Childcare) is responsible for providing direct care and support to children and young people who are living in a residential care setting. The role requires a compassionate and patient individual who is able to build trusting relationships with children and support them to develop their independence, social and life skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide daily support and care to children and young people in a residential care setting.
- Build positive relationships with children and young people and support them to develop their independence, social and life skills.
- Ensure that children and young people are safe and protected at all times.
- Support children and young people to access education and health services.
- Encourage and support positive behaviour and help manage challenging behaviour in a sensitive and appropriate manner.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all interactions and incidents involving children and young people in care.
- Work as part of a team with other support workers and professionals to ensure that the needs of children and young people are met.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Be prepared to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience of working with children and young people in a residential care setting is preferred or some experience of working with children.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A patient, caring and empathetic approach to working with children and young people.
- Ability to manage children with Emotional Behaviour Difficulties and challenging behaviour in a sensitive and appropriate manner.
- Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with other professionals.
- Basic computer skills and ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
- A valid driver's license may be required.
