Job Title: Development Manager

Reports to Museum Director

Hours 30 hours per week, including occasional evening and weekend working

Salary £33,000 to £36,000 pro rata

Purpose:

The Development Manager is responsible, with the Museum Director, for delivering a

successful strategy to raise the agreed annual fundraising target.

Strategic and Operational accountabilities


• Raise agreed annual target, most recently £120,000 per annum.


• Work with the Museum Director and wider team to identify funding opportunities

across the whole of the organisation's activities.


• Assist with the identification and cultivation of existing and prospective high-level

donors.


• With the Museum team, drive an increase in membership subscriptions.


• Plan and deliver an annual programme of fundraising events.

The Development Manager will implement the fundraising strategy, working closely

with the Museum Director, Finance Trustee, Chair and Board of Trustees.

This will be achieved by:


• Review and deliver the fundraising strategy to ensure annual income targets are

met.


• Support the wider team in expanding and maintaining relationships with key

stakeholders with a view both to on-going revenue funding and longer-term major

gifts and legacies.


• Assist in identifying funding opportunities in line with the Museum's strategic aims

and specific planned and potential activity from statutory bodies, trusts and

foundations and assist in preparing effective applications.


• Research and develop sponsors from the corporate sector, locally and nationally,

for both project-specific support and Corporate Membership.


• Manage and expand the Museum's different membership groups.


• Create and implement an effective Legacies Campaign.


• Work with colleagues to identify funding opportunities at the earliest stages of a

project, ensuring effective communication internally and embedding a fundraising

ethos across all activities of the Museum.


• Work collaboratively on the museum's crowdfunding campaigns.


•Oversee the maintenance of the Museum's relationship management system in line

with GDPR regulations.


• Develop and embed a network of volunteers to support this work.


• Work with colleagues to ensure the effectiveness and consistency of all

fundraising-related communications.


• With colleagues, ensure the safe, efficient and timely processing of all income, and

its accurate recording, reporting and acknowledgement for quarterly Board reports

and any other reporting deadlines.


• Instil a culture of fundraising throughout the organisation and ensure quarterly

fundraising meetings are called and actions recorded.


• Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be required by the post holder.

Person Specification: Essential:


• Significant experience of securing donations or other income through grants,

individual giving or corporate partnerships.


• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.


• Familiar with fundraising techniques and approaches in comparable sectors.


• Ability to plan and prioritise a demanding workload and to meet deadlines.


• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.


• Strong interpersonal skills, able to relate effectively and appropriately to a wide

range of people, and a team player with the ability to influence people.


• Ability to be discrete and always maintain confidentiality.

Desirable:


• Knowledge of / interest in museums
