Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Approved Social Worker (ASW) to join a Learning Disabilities Team based in Hackney.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting adults with learning disabilities, ensuring that their care and support needs are met in line with statutory frameworks, and that they are empowered to live fulfilling, independent lives.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, completing assessments, managing complex cases, and ensuring high standards of practice under the Care Act 2014, Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007), and Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake statutory social work under the Mental Health Act as an Approved Social Worker.
  • Complete strengths-based assessments and develop person-centred support plans.
  • Manage a caseload of adults with learning disabilities and complex needs.
  • Work collaboratively with health professionals, carers, and external agencies.
  • Ensure all work meets legislative, procedural, and performance requirements.
  • Contribute to safeguarding processes and multidisciplinary decision-making.
  • Promote independence, inclusion, and well-being of service users.

Requirements

Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England

Approved Social Worker qualification

Experience working with adults with learning disabilities

Sound knowledge of relevant legislation (Care Act, Mental Health Act, MCA)

Excellent assessment, communication, and risk management skills

Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
