Job Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join an Adult Acute Inpatient medical team in Merseyside. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic hospital environment, providing specialist assessment and intervention for adults presenting with communication and swallowing difficulties due to a range of acute medical and neurological conditions.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience in an acute or hospital setting and be confident managing a varied medical caseload. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to support timely, patient-centred care and contribute to high standards of clinical practice within the service.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Assess, diagnose, and manage adults with speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders in an acute medical inpatient setting.
Deliver individualised treatment plans, ensuring evidence-based and goal-oriented interventions.
Collaborate with medical, nursing, and therapy colleagues to facilitate safe and effective care and discharge planning.
Provide specialist advice, training, and support to colleagues and carers regarding communication and swallowing management.
Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical records in line with professional standards.
Contribute to the ongoing development of the acute speech and language therapy service.
Offer clinical supervision and support to junior staff or students, as appropriate.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, you must have:
A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent qualification).
HCPC registration and membership (or eligibility) with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
Demonstrable experience working in adult acute or hospital-based settings.
Knowledge and skills in dysphagia assessment and management.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
A proactive, flexible, and patient-centred approach to clinical care.
