A little more about your role…

WSP are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Associate Director or Technical Director to join the Roads team based in our London & South East region located in our London (Westferry Circus) office.

You will be providing technical leadership to our design teams and will use your knowledge and skills to deliver the right quality to time and budget. You will use those attributes to lead design teams and to mentor and support junior team members. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of delivery of schemes in either the local or national transport arena.

In this role your responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and inhouse quality assurance standards/processes.
  • Maintaining an overview of the financial performance for projects within the cost centre.
  • Drive operational excellence to achieve budget targets on utilisation.
  • Manage and monitor technical delivery to ensure 'right first time'.
  • Line manage and develop members of the team to achieve their goals and aspirations.
  • Lead on business development activities to bring in new, sustainable opportunities for WSP.
  • Supporting and working with the Regional Director, London & South East and their goals for the cost centre.
  • Leading on projects to ensure technical quality and timely delivery. 
  • Oversee multi-disciplinary projects of varying scale, complexity and value, managing budget and financial performance.
  • Working directly with our clients, developing strong trusted relationships, proactively managing their expectations and comprehensively advising them. 
  • Work collaboratively with the Roads team and our colleagues in the wider Transport and Infrastructure business to achieve our aims and objectives.
  • Support the London & South East Regional Director with leadership and business development.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

  • Experience of managing a Professional Services team, relevant to a Roads discipline.
  • A broad range of project experience, both within civil engineering discipline and multi-disciplinary projects, focusing on highways.
  • Chartered Civil Engineer or an Incorporated Engineer with extensive post professional qualification experience
  • Experience of operating at management level in delivering services into the public and private sector.
  • Demonstrate ability to improve, motivate and encourage others, lead and implement change programmes, inspiring colleagues and drive an innovative and supportive culture. Act as a catalyst for change.
  • Proven ability to lead a single or multiple design disciplines in relevant projects (i.e. road, public transport, active travel, public real and/or private development).
  • Commercial and strategic capability with a demonstrable track record in having identified and subsequently delivered new business opportunities.

  • Organisational skills to coordinate the delivery activities of a professional team.
  • Clear understanding of the importance of robust business processes and systems and a strong commitment to quality.
  • Strong communication skills, with expert client/stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong influencing skills particularly amongst peers and other managers and leaders.
  • Ability to work openly and collaboratively to maximise overall organisational benefit.
  • Technical expertise to manage and lead multi-disciplinary projects.
