Job Overview
There is an exciting opportunity for a Trainee SACT ACP for Haematology, who will work closely with and support Haematology patients receiving SACT. There will be opportunities for service improvement, whilst meeting the overview JD of a trainee ACP, as well as being passionate about Haematology SACT. (Please see attached JD documents for further detail). The postholder should be passionate about SACT but also have had exposure and awareness of the deliver of SACT locally and nationally.

This is a development role to support the pathway of Haematology Cancer patients going through the treatments of SACT. The postholder will develop advanced physical assessment, clinical/diagnostic reasoning and NMP skills to support patients during the 2 years in post.

Main duties of the job

  • Be a clinical expert in Haematological cancer with excellent communication skills. The role requires the ability to work autonomously and independently but within an integrated collaborative team.
  • Utilise advanced communication and counselling skills when discussing diagnosis, prognosis and treatment options for Haematological cancers with sensitivity and expertise.
  • Co-ordinate investigations, treatments and arrangements for patients receiving treatments in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
  • Visit the appropriate areas and review Haematology patients on SACT, providing support, information and education relevant to their care and management plan.
  • To support a designated caseload of patients and make an assessment of their healthcare needs based on highly developed nursing knowledge and skills, including physical examination, applying NMP skills where appropriate.
  • To support the SACT day units by administering SACT, teaching and providing advice.
  • To make differential diagnosis using decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • To work with the Haematology MDT and foster good working relationships with other healthcare professionals and users of services to ensure the delivery of high standards of effective healthcare. (This would include pharmacy teams/dieticians/psychologist)

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Awareness of the national Cancer agenda and guidelines
  • Ability to influence current practice and influence change
  • Knowledge of current practice issues and interest in further learning
  • Able to recognise and analyse complex situations and take appropriate solutions
  • Awareness of critical analysis & awareness of application of research to practice
  • Evidence of good written and oral communication skills including presentations

Desirable criteria

  • Report writing
  • Level 2 Psychology Support skills
  • Ability and initiative to develop specialist areas of interest

Qualifications
Essential criteria

  • Recognised Haematology Cancer Care Qualification
  • SACT Qualification
  • Mentorship/teaching course or willingness to complete in first 6 months
  • Resuscitation/Life Support course (if appropriate to area and role)
  • Working towards or due to start MSc Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent qualification with a commitment to complete pathway
  • Current unrestricted registration as a Nurse, Midwife or AHP

Desirable criteria

  • Haematology or cancer module completion/ qualification
  • Leadership Qualification/Module

Experience
Essential criteria

  • Recent SACT experience
  • Evidence of ability to work at advanced practice level

Desirable criteria

  • Demonstrate involvement in recent research.
  • Experience of running nurse led caseload.
  • Previous involvement in clinical trials.
  • Management & Leadership experience at Band 6 or 7 level.
  • Experience of teaching to large groups.
