An exciting opportunity has become available for a newly qualified Speech and Language Therapist with interest in Neuropsychiatry to join our team at Cygnet Brunel.

Cygnet Brunel is a 32-bed Neuropsychiatric service, offering neuropsychiatric rehabilitation for individuals with complex acquired brain injury and mental health needs. The hospital is a modern facility which has been designed specifically to provide a clinically led evidence-based neuropsychiatric pathway for individuals presenting with behaviours that challenge.

Our focus is to create a therapeutically rich environment which engages our service users and provides the opportunity to minimise their challenging behaviour and maximise their independence.

Job Role

As an SLT you will be working directly with a caseload of patients with complex needs to assess their speech, communication and language needs (SCLN) in all environments. As part of a multi-disciplinary team on-site, you will also work with all staff across the hospital to support the implementation of the therapeutic and neuropsychiatric approach demonstrating an interest in upskilling the workforce.

You will work within the parameters of the SLT pathway for neuropsychiatric / neurodegenerative services as part of a small on-site SLT team, whilst still having scope to be creative and innovative in your approach. You will provide quality assessment, interventions and be skilled in both SCLN and EDS needs. You will be part of a company-wide SLT service and contribute to the service enhancement.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with:

  • A Diploma/Degree in Speech and Language Therapy and Current State Registration with HCPC and membership of professional body (RCSLT)
  • Strong clinical and professional skills
  • Experience or keen interest in the field of neurological conditions
  • Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others
  • Good organisational and project management skills
  • Ability to work flexibly in a fast paced and dynamic environment
  • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion

Five reasons why you should make an application today…

  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will assess, diagnose and play a key role in the management of men with acquired brain injuries, behaviours that challenge and other diagnosed / undiagnosed conditions. Under the guidance of the supervising SLT, you will be able to train others, promote good practice and maintain a successful inclusive communication environment. Low caseload numbers enable you to provide focused support.
  • You will have the opportunity to progress your career under the guidance of an experienced clinical supervisor and clinical team.
  • We offer additional support to newly and recently qualified SLTs through the delivery of a development programme, which will enable you develop your knowledge and skills and evidence your competencies.
  • You will have access to the resources you need to deliver the highest quality service and maintain an inclusive communication environment.

  • Excellent Clinical Supervision, Peer Support, CPD and developmental opportunities including the progression of EDS competencies
  • Support in developing and evidencing NQP SLT competencies, regular NQP forum meetings
  • Generous annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata)
