Alternative Provision Lead

Warrington, Warrington, United Kingdom Warrington Borough Council Full time £40,000 - £60,000 per year
About us

Lymm High School is a well-established 11-18 school with over 1950 students (400 in the 6th form) and exceptional resources, including 28 acres of beautiful grounds, a swimming pool, leisure complex and our own residential centre in Anglesey.

We have a strong track record of excellent exam results at both GCSE and A' level and an excellent reputation in the community. It is also a lovely place in which to work; in addition to good fortune with our physical surroundings, staff are exceptionally positive, committed and supportive.

The role

This new role is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated, compassionate and unfailingly positive practitioner to develop their skills and experience in working with students who have SEMH difficulties. You will help us to shape the next chapter of our school's strategy for inclusion by playing a central role in the design, ongoing development and management of a brand new, in-house alternative provision unit (you will even be able to help us decide upon a name for it)

Reporting directly to senior leadership, the successful applicant will have day-to-day responsibility for running the new unit. You will lead on the design and implementation of a bespoke curriculum with approaches supportive of SEMH and neurodiversity. You will also identify, develop and deliver programmes designed to develop social communication skills, emotional regulation and self-esteem for some of the most complex pupils in our school community; in particular, those at risk of either permanent exclusion and/or who require a more bespoke offer than our traditional mainstream curriculum.

As a school we are committed to a truly comprehensive education where the needs of all our pupils are met. Our Student Services team, heads of year, mental health and well-being staff, and the Learning Development (SEND) Department all play a vital part in our inclusive ethos. These teams are made up of some wonderful people and you will be working closely with them.

This post may suit someone who is already working within an Alternative Provision or Designated Provision, or an SEND teacher who is looking to work within a mainstream setting. Equally, it may suit someone who is currently working with young people outside of a formal education setting.

The successful candidate will need to be most content when working with some of the most vulnerable and complex children and will certainly need to be adaptable, good humoured and resilient. Beyond that, we are less interested in your specific experience and more interested in the level of your commitment and ability to relate to young people.

We warmly invite you to come and visit the school for yourself, and to meet with us, to see whether Lymm High School would be somewhere you would enjoy working. If you would like to visit us, please contact [email protected] to make arrangements. Please be aware that school will be closed for the half term so any visits will need to be made before Thursday 23 October.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this legal requirement.

The successful applicant's appointment will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment clearances including a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

At Lymm High School we recognise the positive value of diversity, promoting equality and celebrating inclusion. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds.

Applications should be made via the portal on the school website
