Deputy Chair of Trustees
Are you a unique blend of attributes we need?
A scientist with a big heart; A thinker that gets things done; A communicator who works through others; A team player but self-starter.
The role is mainly external relationship management.
What difference will you make?
We have developed some excellent relationships with the medical profession and we now need someone who can build even closer bridges to those who hold our future in their hands.
Undserstanding the workings of our main scientific, research and clinical audiences would help us understand better how to help them help us.
What are we looking for?
Ideally
- A background in medical research or pharma or medicine.
- Good communication and relationship development skills
- Willing to work within an agreed plan but push the boundaries
- A doer as well as a thinker - we are full of ideas but not resources
- A strong network of connections
- Have worked with patients and understand the burden of disease
- Compassionate
- Supportive to other team members
What will you be doing?
We are a small patient advocacy charity who are seeking a deputy chair. The patients we represent and support have a rare autoimmune disease and, although not entirely, are all adults. One of the diseases bullous pemphigoid, is on the increase and is more prevalent on elderly people who often struggle to represent themselves and often don't have access to the technologies that many of us take for granted.
If we could get more awareness of the diseases out there, we are sure we could help to increase diagnosis speeds and ensure the best treatments available are offered.
The team running the charity is small and highly motivated but are mostly patients themselves. Someone with a background in biological sciences, possibly even with medical or pharma experience could help us build and implement our plans.
You can live wherever you want as long as it is in the UK. We rarely meet face-to-face. The most important thing is that you are prepared to take on the work involved to continue the progress already made. It would probably be around 2 hours a week or so.
You won't be told what you need to do - our plans are clear and we have plenty of opportunities to add value. You'll probably have ideas that we want to hear about and get on with. We've made lots of advances but there is so much more we could do.
Interested? Can we chat?
