Upper Hackney England, United Kingdom Apart of Me Full time £60,000 - £80,000 per year

A multi-award-winning charity dedicated to helping young people through loss and trauma. We combine cutting edge design with world-class clinical expertise to build products and services alongside young people, that truly engage them in their hour of need.

What difference will you make?

This role is central to the growth and long-term sustainability of Apart of Me. As Treasurer Trustee, you will ensure that our finances remain strong, transparent, and aligned with our mission to help young people navigate grief and trauma. Your guidance will give the Board the confidence to make bold, informed decisions that allow us to expand our reach without losing sight of our purpose.

We are at an exciting stage in our journey. Our award-winning therapeutic game has been downloaded over 150,000 times across more than 50 countries, with recognition from the NHS and a growing global community of users. The demand for our support is increasing rapidly, and we are developing new digital and clinical programmes to meet this need. To do this sustainably, we need a Treasurer who can help us strengthen our financial systems, explore new funding opportunities, and ensure every resource is used effectively.

You will play a key role in helping us transform from a small but mighty charity into a financially secure organisation with the capacity to reach many more young people. By working closely with the CEO, Finance Manager, and fellow trustees, you will help us plan ahead with clarity and confidence. Your insight will help shape our strategy, guide our investments, and support responsible growth.

The impact of your contribution will be far-reaching. Every budget you approve, every financial process you strengthen, and every risk you help us manage will directly support our mission to bring comfort, healing, and hope to young people who have lost someone they love. You will be ensuring that we can continue to provide free, accessible, and evidence-based support for those who need it most.

Ultimately, your role will help us change lives. You will give Apart of Me the financial foundation it needs to thrive, so that together we can transform the way the world supports young people through grief—helping them turn pain into compassion for themselves and others.

What are we looking for?

The Treasurer is a member of the Board of Trustees with specific oversight of the charity's financial management. While day-to-day financial administration is carried out by employees or external providers, the Treasurer works closely with them and the Board to ensure sound financial governance. The Treasurer provides financial leadership, helps trustees understand the organisation's finances, and ensures that the charity meets its financial and statutory obligations.

Our board meet once a month (either virtually or in person) for around 90 minutes. We aim to have strategy days twice a year. You will also meet with the CEO and Finance Manager once a month, and be available for ad hoc emails, advice. Trustees are usually appointed for a three-year term, which can usually

be extended. We will provide access to training (typically one day) if you do not have direct experience in charity finance.

What will you be doing?

As our new
Treasurer Trustee
, you will play a central role in shaping the financial future of Apart of Me and ensuring that every pound we spend makes a difference to the young people we support. You will help us build a financially resilient, transparent, and impactful organisation as we grow our reach and deepen our support for those experiencing loss and trauma.

The Treasurer provides oversight and leadership in all areas of financial governance. While the day to day management of finances is handled by our staff team and external providers, you will act as a trusted partner to our CEO and Finance Manager, helping to set our financial strategy, review performance, and ensure that the Board fully understands the charity's financial position. You will lead discussions around budgeting, reserves, and risk management, ensuring our decisions are grounded in both ambition and sustainability.

Our Board meets once a month for around 90 minutes, either virtually or in person, and we hold two strategy days each year. Between meetings, you will stay connected with the CEO and Finance Manager, providing guidance and advice as needed. The Treasurer will also take a lead role in the Finance Subcommittee, reviewing our accounts, policies, and forecasts before they are presented to the wider Board.

Our current Board is a small but passionate group of trustees, bringing together expertise in finance, education, media, HR, wellbeing, and digital innovation. Several trustees have lived experience of childhood bereavement, which strengthens our empathy and understanding of the young people we serve. The Board is chaired by Matt Williams, Executive Digital Editor at ITV News, and includes professionals from a wide range of sectors who are united by a shared purpose to transform how young people experience grief.

Our outgoing Treasurer, Liz, will be stepping down at the end of 2025, following a planned handover period. Liz has helped to put strong financial systems in place, and we are now looking for someone who can build on that foundation as we enter a new phase of growth.

This is an exciting time to join Apart of Me. Our award winning therapeutic game has reached over 150,000 young people across 50 countries, and our impact is growing rapidly. With recognition from the NHS and a vibrant community of volunteers, we are ready to scale our work to reach more bereaved young people who struggle to find support elsewhere.

As Treasurer Trustee, you will play a vital part in making that possible. Your financial insight will help us plan boldly but wisely, ensuring that every decision supports our mission to help young people turn pain into compassion for themselves and others.
