We are currently looking for an experienced Mobile Maintenance Fitter (Mechanical) to join our friendly team based out of Tarmac Briton Ferry Concrete Plant in Neath covering our South Wales Readymix plants. This role is working 48hrs week (Monday to Friday 9 hours per day and Saturday 3 hours). As well Neath this role is commutable from Swansea, Morriston, Birchgrove, Briton Ferry, Port Talbot and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility

Reporting to the Readymix Production Manager, the role of Mobile Maintenance Fitter (Mechanical) will have responsibility for inspection, maintenance and service of our Readymix Concrete Plants. As a member of the Maintenance team, you will provide PPM and breakdown response to the Readymix business delivering the Maintenance Strategy for your area of cover and best practice by driving a culture of continuous improvement.

As well as PPM, the Mobile Maintenance Fitter (Mechanical) will respond to emergency and plant breakdowns in a timely and efficient way on all production equipment including conveyors, pneumatics as well as fabrication / welding plant and be responsible for ensuring assets are returned to production and temporary fixes are followed up with a permanent solution.

The role of Mobile Maintenance Fitter (Mechanical) will also be responsible for:

  • Owning small scale projects and delivering them in a pragmatic and proactive manner
  • Taking a cost-conscious approach to maintenance activities and PPM
  • Coordinating with contractors and suppliers when they are on site
  • Participating in root cause analysis so repeat failures can be eliminated
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of the engineering function through your own observations and experience
  • Welding and Fabricating to a good standard
  • Working with risk assessments and method statements and contributing to the preparation and development of safe working methods for repair procedures
  • Maintaining and promoting Health and Safety rules and regulations, following all company processes and procedures and challenging unsafe conditions and practices, reporting these through company procedures
  • Utilising the computerised maintenance management system and recording all work including fault descriptions, spares used and repairs carried out. Using application-based inspection schemes

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Mobile Maintenance Fitter (Mechanical) will be self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work with minimal supervision. You should also demonstrate proven experience working within an Industrial, Factory or similar environment as a Mobile Fitter. Suitable candidates will have:

  • Recognised apprenticeship (preferably a higher-level standard)
  • ONC/HNC (desirable but not essential)
  • Strong, practical mechanical systems background, heavy industry preferred - conveyors, pneumatics, drive systems – motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes
  • Fault-finding ability to identify defects and recommend appropriate action
  • Ability to remove and fit bearings
  • Capability to undertake emergency breakdown repairs and PPM in a timely and efficient manner on all production equipment
  • IT skills and be able to use PCs, common applications and company systems
  • Competence in the use of application-based inspection schemes
  • Ability to assess SHE risks arising from work activities and control risks accordingly
  • Knowledge of site-specific SHE procedures and Safe Working Practices
