Overview

The Yorkshire Society is a not-for-profit organisation that celebrates and promotes Yorkshire's economy, history, heritage, beauty, and culture. Established in 1980, it serves as the champion of 'God's own country' locally, nationally, and internationally, with affiliated organizations worldwide. Re-structured and reorganised in 2018, the Society now brings people together, raises funds to support initiatives and communities, and operates as a Private Limited Company providing membership benefits to individuals and organisations.

The Society 'brings the people of Yorkshire together' for business and pleasure, and it 'celebrates and promotes' everything that makes Yorkshire special.

The Yorkshire Society is a membership organisation, providing those who want to show their Yorkshire credentials a way to do so, whilst also providing members with benefits that justify the membership fee.

The Society now wishes to pro-actively promote corporate membership to the thousands iof Yorkshire businesses, large and small, who do not know the Society even exists - Yorkshire's population of 5.5m people, and c400k enterprises are largely unaware of the Society or the benefits of joining it.

The Society is entering a new era of collaboration and pro-active support for Yorkshire businesses making membership something for every business to consider.

Going Forward

The Yorkshire Society has no employees and is managed and run by members and volunteers who step up to do as much as they can. We have long known this is not sustainable and stifles growth and potential.

Going forward, corporate membership is seen as the most important area to focus efforts on to generate increased revenues and allow the Society to grow and fulfil its potential. We have therefore decided to find someone with the relevant skills and values to undertake this important role.

Role Description

This is a full-time (or potentially part-time) role based from home - the Society does not have offices. The Corporate Membership Manager will be responsible for day-to-day tasks related to member recruitment i.e. strategic planning; identification of prospects; lead generation; initial engagement; presentation of the Society to prospects; on-boarding new corporate members. The person we envisage for this role will, as we do, love Yorkshire. They will be able to work alone and with a team, contributing to the overall management of the Society when necessary and providing leadership on corporate membership recruitment. They will not be a clock-watcher, but someone focussed on achieving results and agreed goals. They will enjoy meeting people, have a warm, friendly and outgoing personality and have an eye for opportunities, which they will also be adept at creating.

To fulfil this role to its full potential you will be required to visit prospective members premises and relevant events throughout Yorkshire.

Qualifications

  • Sales, Customer Relations and Business Development skills
  • Strong Communication and Customer Service skills
  • Knowledge or experience with CRM system(s) ideally
  • Selling skills
  • Highly organised
  • Experience in a membership or non-profit organization an advantage
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Qualification or Experience in Marketing, Business, Communications, or related field useful

Salary

Negotiable but salary is based on performance and minimum expectation is the generation of revenues to cover costs. Potential for results-based bonus.

There will be an intitial trial period of up to 3 months on a freelance basis. Immediate start if possible,
