We are seeking new members to join our established Joint Independent Audit Committee (JIAC). This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in ensuring effective governance, risk management, and financial integrity in the delivery of efficient, effective, and safe policing across South Yorkshire.

Please note you must be independent of both the Force and the Mayor's office and be able to commit to 4–6 meetings per year and approximately 12 days annually.

About The Role
The JIAC provides
independent assurance
on the adequacy and effectiveness of governance, risk, data quality, internal control, and financial management arrangements. Our remit goes beyond traditional financial oversight, extending to all aspects of policing in South Yorkshire. The Committee supports the Mayor and holds the Chief Constable to account, helping maintain public trust and confidence in policing.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Provide independent assurance on governance, risk management, and internal controls.
  • Scrutinise financial and non-financial performance, ensuring value for money.
  • Oversee internal and external audit processes.
  • Advise on anti-fraud, bribery, and corruption strategies.
  • Support the Mayor and Chief Constable in embedding effective governance across policing functions.

  • Bring experience as a strategic leader, with knowledge of corporate governance, risk, and control.
  • Ideally have experience in internal or external audit.
  • Can operate collaboratively, provide constructive challenge, and build positive relationships with key stakeholders including the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Chief Constable, senior officers, and auditors.
