Mechanical Design Engineer (Hands-On Focus)

We are seeking a motivated, practically minded Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working hands-on with electromechanical systems, from concept and prototyping through to testing and commissioning, and who takes pride in seeing their designs coming to life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the lead engineer to develop, prototype, and refine mechanical components for animatronics and themed attractions.
  • Assemble, test and troubleshoot electro mechanical systems.
  • Create and update 2D/3D CAD models and technical drawings to support the build and fabrication process.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines (electrical, structural, scenic) to ensure smooth integration of mechanical systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of design iterations, workshop tests, and installation adjustments.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Degree, diploma, apprenticeship, or strong practical experience in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years' practical experience in mechanical design, fabrication, or installation.
  • Experience in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor) for design and build support.
  • Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings and turn them into physical builds.
  • Hands-on experience with workshop tools, prototyping, or mechanical assemblies.
  • Proactive, takes ownership of tasks, and able to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance.
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive approach.

  • Experience in themed entertainment, scenic production, or creative manufacturing.
  • Knowledge in robotics, automation, pneumatics, and motion-based systems.
  • Exposure to basic electrical systems (e.g., schematics, PLCs, Arduino).
