Working pattern: A remote role, full-time or part-time

The organisation

The Artington Group consists of two key businesses:

·      Clearly Business Law, a legal services provider

·      Artington Legal, a boutique law firm regulated by the SRA

We provide a range of legal services to our SME clients from corporate and commercial to employment, commercial property, regulatory and IP.

The Artington Group prides itself on being collaborative and forward-thinking. Our team sees the bigger picture, and we think commercially and innovatively in terms of supporting our clients. We have proven expertise across a wide variety of business sectors.

The Artington Group comprises highly experienced business lawyers with a strong track record of working at major London and regional law firms as well as in-house experience.

Our culture

The Artington Group is  proud to be a certified B Corp and is one of only 29 companies providing legal services in the UK that is B Corp certified.  We consider ourselves to be inclusive and supportive of colleagues and clients alike. Becoming a B Corp demonstrates our commitment to driving positive social and environmental change in the legal industry

We focus on delivering exceptional service through a commitment to our core values, and are proud that much of our work comes from client referrals.

The Artington Group operates remotely, with a small administrative office in Woking, Surrey.

We genuinely prioritise the well-being and growth of each member of our team, recognising that a healthy work environment is essential for the firm's success.

The role

Our successful corporate and commercial teams are very busy both in Artington Legal and Clearly Business Law, and we are looking for a corporate and commercial lawyer to join us part-time or full-time. You would be working on matters for both businesses within the Artington Group. You will be based at home with occasional meetings in London.

We have developed a strong practice supporting SMEs in the sustainable sector with their funding rounds, as well as their disposals and acquisitions. We also assist these same clients with their day-to-day commercial legal work. Transactional experience and the ability to lead is essential.

The successful candidate will have a strong corporate law background with experience in working with SME clients. You will also have commercial law experience and can provide advice on a broad range of commercial contracts.

You will have great technical abilities, client care and ethical standards and interpersonal skills. You will also need to have keen interest in networking and business development, supporting the marketing efforts of the firm with a view to developing our client base over time.

The role will include:

·      Advising on, and leading, private M&A transactions for our SME clients, including funding rounds, disposals, acquisitions, reorganisations and other corporate transactions.

·      Drafting, reviewing and negotiating transaction documents (including share purchase agreements, asset purchase agreements and subscription agreements).

·      Advising on and drafting shareholders' agreements and articles of association.

·      Advising on, and drafting, a wide range of commercial contracts and T&Cs.

·      Providing advice on corporate governance and compliance.

·      Proactive involvement in a range of business development and marketing activities including (but not limited to) attending and speaking at appropriate networking events and conferences, writing social media posts, articles and other thought pieces on topical issues and preparing client updates on key legal issues.

·      Responsibility for providing technical and mentoring support and guidance to other members of the team.

Key requirements

·      At least  5 years post-qualification experience gained within a strong corporate and commercial law practice.

·      Experience working with SME clients.

·      Strong technical skills with experience of Microsoft 365.

·      Client focussed – with the ability to quickly build excellent rapport to gain the confidence of our clients.

·      Strong communication and networking skills.

·      Excellent organisational and time management skills.

·      Thrives as part of a small, busy team.
