Summary of the role and work

A junior role reporting into the Accounts Manager providing accounting and general office support duties with the potential to learn and support the responsibilities for the preparation of client payrolls. As the firm expands its legal, tax and consultancy work, as well as its client payroll offering to international and domestic clients, there is a need for additional accounting, payroll and administrative support. This role would suit a reliable candidate who is interested in the tax or legal sectors, and is looking for an opportunity which offers the possibility of longer-term growth and development.

Our Ambition for The Role

Currently, the role will include supporting the firm's internal accounts function with its day-to-day activities, in the future involving preparation and processing of monthly client payrolls. It will involve some general office duties as well.

For candidates wishing to develop accounting and payroll knowledge, there will be scope to develop their expertise to expand their role as we grow [and possibly further into areas of tax and social security]. Appropriate training and professional development support is available, as required.

Main duties of the job:

  • Data Entry: Inputting financial data into accounting software or spreadsheets.
  • Accounts Receivable: Completing billing instructions, raising bills, processing credit notes, sending statements and credit control.
  • Accounts Payable: Posting supplier invoices and staff expenses, coding to the nominal.
  • Assistance with monthly billing in the Accounts Manager's absence.
  • Month-end closing procedures
  • General office admin support as needed
  • Any other ad hoc duties as requested.

Other duties of the job:

  • Preparation and processing of client payrolls (with initial support and training from the Account Manager and tax professionals within the firm)

Requirements for the role

  • There are no formal qualification requirements for this role.
  • Familiarity with working with spreadsheets, accounting systems, and document management systems, and ability to learn quickly.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Commitment to providing excellent service to internal and external clients.
  • Previous experience of processing payrolls would be helpful however the ability, after training, to manage the preparation and process client payrolls is essential.
  • Actively seeking to take responsibility in your own work.

Supervision and COVER responsibilities

Supervision of Role

  • Monthly 1-2-1 reviews with Accounts Manager every other month.
  • Daily work to be managed and supervised by Accounts Manager.
  • There will be the need for interaction and coordination with tax professionals within the firm specifically on payroll matters from time to time as required.

Holiday cover: Accounts

  • After training, this role is the main backup to Accounts functions when Accounts Manager is away.

Holiday cover: Office Admin

  • This role may be required to assist with Office Administration duties, especially during holiday periods and other staff absences.

Training objectives

  • To progress and undertake formal training to allow you to take on increased accounting responsibilities.
  • To take on Office Administration duties, with a view to expanding your office management capabilities.
