Night Care Assistant

To support service users with all aspects of their day to day living, so they can enjoy the best possible quality of life. You will provide care and support to service users this role has many rewards but can also be challenging. Compassion, good communication skills and a calm and caring manner are essential for this important role in our company. You must provide safe, reliable, compassionate care and support to meet the individual needs and wishes of each service user. Everyone is unique, you must respect each service user's choice about how their care and support is always given and promote their dignity. It is essential to report any changes or causes for concern to your manager, you need to be clear about when to seek help and advice to keep service users safe and promote their wellbeing. Responsible for the security and safety of the home whilst on duty. There will be some domestic work within the general scope of the duties.
Overall responsibilities
Give non-discriminatory care and support that values the whole person rather than merely seeing a list of care needs. Carefully listen and observe how each service user prefers their care and support to be delivered on a day-to-day basis. Help them make their own decisions so they can be as independent as possible. Follow the instructions in the care and support plan agreed with each service user or advocate. This may include:
· All aspects of physical care depending on individual need working as part of a team but capable of working unsupervised.
· Practice good housekeeping skills through the good management of services, water and all equipment used.
· Housekeeping duties as required by the Homes Manager including cleaning of designated areas, ironing, preparing vegetables and jugs.
· Carry out emergency procedures including basic First Aid as necessary in respect of accidents, illness, death, and fire.
· Fully understand fire safety requirements for fire prevention and for fire alarm procedures.
· Fully understand responsibilities in relation to health and safety, food hygiene, fire precautions and emergency procedures, infection control and emergency aid.
· Follow procedures to ensure health and safety and security. Report any damage or fault in equipment, furniture, or fittings to Care Leader or Home Manager.
· Attend staff meetings, participate in training, and communicate (effectively) verbally and in writing.
· Other tasks within the scope of the post as requested by Care Leader/Home Manager.
· All aspects of personal care such as showering and bathing, dressing, and grooming, dental hygiene, assisting to the bathroom, and continence care.
Supporting the service user to eat and drink well. For example, helping the service user to choose what to eat and drink, giving gentle encouragement, preparing, and serving food and drinks, clearing the table, washing up and keeping the kitchen area clean and tidy.
Safely using aids and personal equipment in a manner that respects the dignity of customers. For example, walking frames, wheelchairs, manual and electric hoists, sliding sheets and moving boards, hearing aids and other physical aids.
Keep all information about service users and their families secure and confidential.
Follow Stonehaven's policies, procedures, and guidance always.
Maintain good infection control practice.
Work independently and as part of a team to provide the care required for the service user.
Be willing to care for people that are approaching the end stages of their lives whilst promoting dignity and person-centered care at all times.
