Principal Systems Architect – Humanoid Robotics

About the Company

Our client is a pioneering robotics and AI company developing next-generation humanoid platforms designed to tackle major global labour shortages across industries such as logistics, manufacturing, and construction. Their mission is to build safe, intelligent, and commercially viable humanoid robots that augment human capability in the real world.

As they scale their engineering organization, we are supporting them in the search for an exceptional
Principal Systems Architect
— someone who can bring deep technical leadership, architectural vision, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to one of the most ambitious challenges in modern robotics.

The Opportunity

This is a senior, high-impact role where you'll define and own the system architecture of the company's flagship humanoid robot. You'll work across mechanical, electrical, software, and AI teams to ensure all subsystems integrate seamlessly into a cohesive, safe, and performant system.

You'll lead technical strategy and design trade-offs, establish architecture frameworks, and make key decisions that influence both near-term development and long-term scalability. This is an opportunity to shape the backbone of a humanoid platform that will transform the way people and robots work together.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the overarching
    system architecture
    for humanoid products.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and AI leads to ensure seamless
    cross-domain integration
    .
  • Translate product requirements into
    system-level specifications
    and design documentation.
  • Lead
    trade studies
, identify technical risks, and drive data-backed decision-making.
  • Oversee
    system reliability, scalability, and safety
    standards across all subsystems.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry standards to guide technical direction.
  • Act as a key technical advisor to leadership, influencing both design and execution strategy.

Ideal Background

  • Degree in
    Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
, or related discipline (advanced degree preferred).
  • 15+ years
of experience in system architecture or technical leadership, ideally within robotics, autonomous systems, or complex electro-mechanical platforms.
  • Deep knowledge of
    robotic system design
, including control, perception, and actuation systems.
  • Strong understanding of
    hardware-software co-design
    ,
    embedded systems
    ,
    middleware (ROS/ROS2, DDS)
    , and
    real-time compute frameworks
    .
  • Experience with
sensor fusion, power management, wireless comms
    , and safety-critical system design.
  • Excellent communicator who can bridge disciplines and lead through influence.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary with a meaningful
    equity component
    .
  • Opportunity to join a
    well-funded, world-class robotics company
at a pivotal stage of growth.
  • Collaborative, high-impact environment with some of the brightest minds in robotics and AI.
  • Flexible hybrid work setup, with regular collaboration at the London HQ.

If you're passionate about designing complex robotic systems that operate safely and intelligently in the real world — and want to play a defining role in the evolution of humanoid technology — we'd love to hear from you.
