Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom The Thrive Team Full time £40,000 - £70,000 per year

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced
Communications Manager
to lead and deliver impactful internal and external communications within a respected and growing manufacturing organisation.

This newly created role will play a key part in shaping communication strategy, brand positioning, and employee engagement across the business. Working closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams, you'll be responsible for creating high-quality content, managing media relations, and supporting strategic marketing initiatives.

You'll also manage a small in-house team and take a hands-on approach to both strategy and delivery — ideal for someone who enjoys variety, autonomy, and creative problem-solving in a technical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement integrated internal and external communication plans.
  • Manage and mentor two team members – a Graphic Designer and an Internal Communications Specialist.
  • Lead on media relations, press releases, and crisis communications.
  • Produce and commission engaging content, including thought leadership pieces and case studies.
  • Collaborate with business development, HR, R&D, and sales teams to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Act as a brand guardian, maintaining tone of voice and visual identity standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate communication effectiveness and engagement metrics.
  • Represent the business at UK and international industry events when required.

About You

You'll be a confident and capable communicator who can combine strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. You're experienced in managing complex topics and creating engaging stories that resonate with both internal and external audiences.

Essential Experience:

  • Proven experience in a communications role, ideally within engineering, manufacturing, or another technical industry.
  • Excellent writing and editorial skills for technical and corporate audiences.
  • Strong experience in media relations and managing press engagement.
  • Familiarity with digital content tools, social media platforms, and analytics.
  • Previous leadership or team management experience.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Proactive, organised, and able to work to deadlines.

Desirable Experience:

  • Knowledge of Account-Based Marketing (ABM) and B2B content strategies.
  • Experience in sectors with regulatory or reputational sensitivities.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce Marketing Cloud or similar tools.
  • Understanding of internal communications in a manufacturing or engineering setting.

Personal Attributes

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexible, can-do attitude with a drive for improvement.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and results-focused.
  • Reliable, collaborative, and professional.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to obtain relevant UK security clearances.

Package and Benefits

  • Competitive salary and benefits offered.
  • Permanent, full-time position.
  • Flexible working hours (Monday–Thursday, with an early finish on Friday).
  • Standard company benefits package.
  • On-site facilities and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and leadership development.
  • Office-based in Newcastle upon Tyne, with some UK and overseas travel (up to 20%).
