Company description

We are a long established family business operating in the Port of Hull. We work as "Boatmen" at Hull's three working docks and Saltend Jetty. Our duties involve the mooring and unmooring of vessels entering the Port of Hull. We are the mooring service provider for Siemens vessels into Hull. A mooring team usually means working in groups of two or four depending on the size of the vessel.

Job description

The job is currently on a temporary- part time basis if the applicant, but may lead to a fulltime role if the succesful applicant wants this. The successful applicant will undertake several separate jobs per week which is negociable. Almost all jobs take between an hour and up to 2 hours. This may suit someone who is retired or just wishes to work a few hours per week. Each job is paid at £50.00.

The role of a Boatman is one that can involve working at different times of the day and night, and is always outside in the Port of Hull. There is no shift system or regulated daily hours, as it is dependent on Port traffic often around the two daily tides which could be early morning or late night. Usually a job takes around an hour and up to two hours.

The hours are changeable so it does require a degree of flexibility and discipline although the job can allow for a lot of free time. The successful applicant will work as part of a two or four man mooring team. Transport is essential to travel between places of work in the port. King George Dock, Alexandra Dock.

The applicant must live in Hull or the surrounding area.
