About the role
LFCW Performance Wellbeing Lead
Liverpool FC Women is embarking on an exciting and transformative phase, with a clear ambition to compete consistently at the top of the Women's game. Central to this vision is the development of a world class team on and off the pitch.
As part of this journey, we are seeking a highly skilled Performance Wellbeing Lead to support Liverpool FC Women's first team players and staff. This newly created role will be instrumental in shaping and delivering a modern wellbeing strategy that supports long-term holistic player development aligned to the Club's football strategy.
Working closely with interdisciplinary teams including medical, safeguarding, coaching and football leadership – you will drive intelligent, evidenced based decision making across all areas of player wellbeing. In addition, you will play a key role in developing and sustaining a high performing care culture.
What will you be doing?
Support players' personal development and future planning
Create and implement a wellbeing strategy that will support professional female athletes. Develop individualised wellbeing plans that address the physical, psychosocial, learning and development, and financial needs of first team players. Monitor physical and psychological wellbeing, providing support and guidance through the work of the multi-disciplinary team.
Empower and support players in their club lifecycle
Drawing on the expertise of the Performance Support Team, support and empower players during career transitions (onboarding and exiting the club) and personal development planning
Build and maintain a culture of performance through wellbeing
Ensure that player wellbeing is a key consideration in all club decisions, enabling this to be actively discussed in multi-disciplinary team meetings and fostering an environment that supports the holistic development of the player. Create a psychologically safe environment for players by building trust and engagement through authentic relationships.
Performance wellbeing as part of a coordinated multi-disciplinary team
Deliver a performance wellbeing strategy that incorporates effective communication, clarifies responsibilities and interacts with other departments.
Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in managing athlete transitions and supporting both personal and professional development, with a strong emphasis on wellbeing. A background in working with high-performance athletes is essential, alongside a proven track record of delivering tailored coaching and mentoring programs. Candidates must hold a degree-level qualification in a relevant field such as sports psychology, wellbeing, education, counselling, or executive coaching. Additional certifications required include UKAD Clean Sport Advisor or equivalent anti-doping accreditation, Mental Health First Aid training with sports-specific modules, and safeguarding qualifications such as Safeguarding and Protecting Children or FA Safeguarding Children. The role demands strong leadership capabilities, the ability to build authentic, trust-based relationships, and a collaborative approach to working within a dynamic multi-disciplinary team.
Why should you apply?
This is a full-time permanent role working 35 hours per week. Your main base will be our AXA Melwood Training Centre.
To reward your hard work and commitment we offer a competitive salary, 25 days holiday (plus 8 bank holidays and the option to purchase up to an additional 5 days) and a contributory pension scheme.
You will have access to our benefits kit bag where you can get high street discounts, and a selection of benefit schemes you can join. There are opportunities to get involved with volunteering through our LFC Foundation to give back to the local community.
At Liverpool Football Club, we have an unwavering commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and are always looking to making a positive difference in the communities that we operate within. We are proud of our achievements in this area; maintaining the Premier League Equality Standard Advanced Level, becoming a founding signatory of the Football Association's Football Leadership Diversity Code and being recognised as a leader in this important area on and off the pitch. We take our responsibilities in this area seriously and through the work being done across the club, we are committed to increasing the diversity of our people and becoming an increasingly inclusive workplace for all. We are committed to hiring great people representative of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and skills across our entire business. If you share our enthusiasm and passion for inclusivity, then we want to hear from you.
Liverpool FC is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all Colleagues and Volunteers to share this commitment. This role is subject to a satisfactory DBS check.
