Laing O'Rourke is currently recruiting an Electrical Design Manager to support the delivery of our upcoming project at
HMP Garth & Wymott
, based initially from our
Sale, Manchester office
. The project is scheduled to go to site next summer, with the team relocating to Lancashire once construction begins.

The Opportunity
This role will lead the design delivery for a single, large-scale project. You'll be the key interface between the client, design team, bid team, and operations team during pre-construction, and will continue to drive design excellence through delivery. We're looking for someone who can challenge and interrogate design collaboratively to reduce risk and increase certainty.

As a senior member of our Design Job Family and Technical Function, you'll be part of our Engineering Enterprise—maximising the potential of design to deliver certainty across all phases of the project.

What will the role look like?

  • Lead pre-construction briefing and design processes.
  • Implement Laing O'Rourke's design management procedures across the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure design information is reviewed for buildability, safety, maintainability, and compliance.
  • Promote innovation in design methodology and management.
  • Champion our company values in all design activities.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  • Experience in modular construction or Laing O'Rourke core sectors.
  • End-to-end design management experience—from concept to handover.
  • Degree in Building Services, Architecture, or a related construction discipline.
  • Strong technical and collaborative leadership across design and delivery.
