About the Role

The Principal UX Designer will be expected to understand and consider the high-level direction of the product as well as the finer details of the app and web user journeys. We are looking for a portfolio of work that showcases innovative, creative design solutions with a clear strategic rationale that meet business and/or user needs.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in user experience design, a passion for healthcare innovation, and a proven track record of creating intuitive and impactful digital products.

The candidate should have strong communication skills that enable efficient communication and visualization of ideas to stakeholders across the company. Experience working in agile teams with developers, UX designers, and product owners is required. A solid understanding of healthcare software, healthcare technology, or medical devices is desirable.

Essential Requirements & Qualifications

  • BSc, and/or MSc in Product Design, Industrial Design, UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
  • Established (at least 4 years) Principal/Senior/Lead UX Designer with experience designing digital products that solve real problems, accompanied by a strong portfolio—preferably within the healthcare or medical technology industry
  • Understanding of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and UX Strategy, with a deep commitment to applying user-centred design (UCD) principles
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, ProtoPie, Adobe XD, or similar
  • Demonstrable experience with user research methodologies and usability testing, with the ability to empathize with users and efficiently translate insights into design decisions
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage with senior stakeholders daily and effectively communicate and visualize ideas
  • Critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative team that includes design, medical, product, and engineering professionals
  • A self-starter who enjoys problem-solving and is motivated by ownership of their work, with the freedom to make evidence-based design decisions

Key Responsibilities

  • Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, and site maps to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas
  • Develop high-fidelity prototypes and design specifications for new features and enhancements
  • Design, document, and communicate user interface designs in a format useful to development teams, consistent with organizational user interface design standards
  • Provide UX consultation and guidance to project sponsors and implementation teams
  • Apply usability heuristics and develop effective usability requirements; evaluate and provide heuristic assessments of user interfaces
  • Communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with all levels and roles in the organization
  • Demonstrate the ability to work within a highly regulated industry
  • Facilitate working sessions, design reviews, and collaborative design meetings
  • Maintain strong knowledge of web-based application design, including responsive and adaptive methods
  • Conduct user experience research, including prototype and usability testing, to gather insights and validate design decisions
  • Stay current with internal quality training and regulatory requirements
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in UX design and healthcare

Additional Preferences

It is desirable for candidates to have the following qualities and experience:

  • A passion for healthcare, digital health technologies, anatomy, and emerging technology
  • Experience designing digitally connected medical device software systems or products
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR), telemedicine, streaming, and remote patient monitoring technologies
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance in the medical device and digital health industries
  • Experience with machine learning, SaMD (software as a medical device), and AI applications in healthcare
  • Experience working in Agile teams
  • The ability to stand by your design decisions while being open to constructive feedback
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data analytics tools
