Are you a registered nurse with experience in oncology and/or palliative care, working and supporting people affected by cancer?

We are recruiting 8x home based nurses to join our team on the Macmillan Support Line and would love to hear from you

About us

At Macmillan you'll find talented people working together to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer. We're going all out to find even better ways to help even more people who need our support. Our values are at the heart of who we are and everything we do, inspiring our thinking and guiding our actions.

Our new organisational strategy sets out how we'll fight even harder to make every pound raised count for even more. With your help, we'll transform cancer care for good.

About the role

As a Cancer Information Nurse Specialist on the Macmillan Support Line, you will provide confidential information and support to people affected by cancer. You will empower people every day to understand their cancer diagnosis, treatments, side effects, and the impact of their cancer experience.

Working on a helpline and across omni channels (including email, webchat, digital platforms) to support people is a fundamental part of this role. You'll be working in a busy and varied environment where demand can change rapidly throughout the day. To meet this need, we use contact centre technology and methodologies that help us respond efficiently and effectively - ensuring people affected by cancer get the support they require.

We understand that you may not have all the skills for this role, but we provide a robust induction and invest in your training to equip you with all the skills you will need to support people affected by cancer with heart, with strength, and with ambition. You will gain valuable experience from working in a growing and exciting area of clinical expertise, and in a team that is part of a multi-disciplinary service providing holistic support.

Working hours

Our Support Line is available 365 days a year, including bank holidays, from 8am to 8pm. It is key to our strategic objective of reaching everyone whilst focusing on those who need the most support. To cover our service and opening hours, you will be required to work a shift pattern on a 4-week rota. We are open to discussing a condensed working pattern, if you are successful at reaching interview and offer stage.

About you

To carry out this role you will need to be a Registered Nurse (Adult) with significant oncology and/or palliative care experience at band 5 or above. You will have excellent communication skills and an in-depth understanding of the needs of people living with and affected by cancer.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Significant experience as a first level registered nurse, preferably in a cancer specialty
  • Degree in Nursing essential (or working towards)
  • Experience of delivering information and support in a busy, demand led environment, ideally with some experience of delivering support virtually
  • Ability to retrieve information from relevant sources including electronic databases and the Internet

As this is a home-based role, you will also need:

  • Experience using the Microsoft Office suite of applications, including Microsoft Teams. Comfortable with using digital platforms to support the people who contact the support line.
  • A reliable broadband connection with upload and download speeds of at least 3mbps
  • To comply with strict data protection rules you must have a private, confidential space to work from.

We will provide all IT equipment needed for the role. There may be occasions where you will have the option to travel to one of our offices (London, Glasgow, or Shipley – West Yorkshire) for events, training, or meetings.

We offer a range of benefits including:

  • 25 days holiday plus flexible bank holiday options, increasing by 1 day every year of service up to 30 days
  • Pension matched up to 7.5%
  • 120+ learning and development offers, with access to external professional qualifications
  • Flexible working patterns, such as compressed hours, flexibility to work earlier or later around our core working hours of 10am-4pm
  • Holiday buying and selling scheme, life insurance, free wills, retail discounts and much more
