Supporter and Donations Officer – Air Ambulance Charity

Location: Wellington, Somerset

Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

About the Charity

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance provides relief from sickness and injury for the people of Dorset and Somerset, delivering critical care by air and road where it is needed most.

Role Purpose

The Supporter and Donations Officer is a central figure in building and nurturing relationships with supporters of the Air Ambulance Charity. This role is responsible for delivering an outstanding supporter experience, ensuring efficient donation processing, and supporting the charity's income generation. Exceptional communication, both written and verbal is at the heart of this role, as is a professional and empathetic telephone manner and an ability to work collaboratively within a supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities

Supporter Care & Communications

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for supporters, providing outstanding customer service via phone, email and post, with a particular focus on delivering a warm, professional, and empathetic telephone manner.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to enquiries related to donations and general fundraising, ensuring every interaction reflects the charity's values and commitment to excellence.
  • Communicate complex information clearly and sensitively, adapting style and tone to suit the audience and situation.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across the charity to ensure a seamless supporter journey and consistent messaging.

Donation Administration

  • Accurately process donations received online, in person and by post.
  • Maintain and update supporter data on the charity's database, ensuring compliance with data protection legislation (GDPR).

Data Management & Reporting

  • Ensure supporter records are accurate and up to date, enabling effective communications and campaign tracking.

Campaign & Fundraising Support

  • Assist with the delivery of fundraising campaigns, appeals, and stewardship initiatives.
  • Support events and donor engagement activities, both in-person and virtually, working collaboratively with team members to achieve shared goals.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with a proven ability to engage and inspire supporters.
  • Outstanding telephone manner, demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and the ability to build rapport quickly.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills with great attention to detail.
  • Customer service experience, including in person, ideally in a charity or fundraising environment.
  • Comfortable working with databases or CRM systems.
  • Proactive, positive attitude, and a genuine interest in charitable work.
  • Strong team player, supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive team culture.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a supporter engagement or income-processing role, including payment processing.
  • Understanding of data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR) and charity fundraising regulations.
  • Passion for the work of air ambulance or emergency response charities.

Experience

  • Previous experience of working in an administrative role in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a people-focused engagement role.
  • Experience in customer service and handling queries.

Education

  • English and Maths GCSE's Grade 5/C or above, or equivalent.

Working Conditions

  • Office-based role.
  • Occasional travel to charity fundraising events or meetings.
  • Full-Time.
