Sheffield, Sheffield, United Kingdom Sheffield City Council Full time £26,403 - £28,598 per year

Job description

Do you want to help vulnerable households in need?

Do you put the customer at the centre of what you do?

Do you have the resilience to thrive in a busy working environment?

If so, we would love for you to apply for the post of Matching Officer within Housing Options & Advice on our Accommodation & Support Team. We have one full time, temporary position until 31/3/2026.

The Role(s):

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the busy, exciting Housing Advice and Options Service. Matching Officers will be responsible for supporting the placement of customers in housing need into suitable accommodation to ensure the service meet their statutory duties.

A big part of the Matching Officer's role will also be liaising and working closely with our accommodation providers regarding the placement of our customers.

Successful candidates will also be responsible for contributing to the delivery of the Supported Accommodation Pathway.

Working within the limits of the accommodation resources available, it is not always possible to meet the accommodation aspirations of our customers; it is crucial to balance of empathy and understanding with managing customer expectations.

You would be working in a team with skilled and experienced officers, seniors and managers who would be on hand to support you.

Who we are looking for:

To be successful, you must be able to demonstrate a clear customer focus, with an ability to prioritise and organise your work whilst working in a fast-paced environment. We need excellent communicators who work well on their own initiative but are also flexible team players. It is important to be resilient and hardworking, with a keenness to learn.

Further information about the role and vacancy is available from

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.

It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.

Under the Guaranteed Interview scheme, applicants who are disabled, care leavers, or armed forces veterans will be guaranteed an interview if they meet the essential criteria and indicate their eligibility on the application form.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all individuals, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for everyone and where appropriate to the role the successful applicant will be required to undertake relevant safeguarding checks.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.

Equality of pay is extremely important to us. All roles at Sheffield City Council are going through an evaluation process which may result in changes to some pay arrangements from 2026.
