Job Description
Job Title: Network Infrastructure Specialist
We are Global
At Global, we think big, work hard, and never stand still. We're the proud home of media and entertainment, driven by our talented and passionate people. Our mission is to make everyone's day brighter - our Globallers, our audiences, our partners, and our communities. Whether we're in the studio, building world-class technology, or securing Outdoor advertising partnerships, we make sure we're doing it as a team.

Your new role
Are you a dedicated and vigilant individual with a passion for Networking? Are you looking for a role in a fast-paced environment where your network skills and commitment to maintaining a secure, stable and scalable environment are valued? This role is for you.

As a Network Infrastructure Specialist at Global, you'll be a key technical contributor within our team, supporting the design, implementation, and stability of our network infrastructure at locations worldwide. You'll work alongside a team of dedicated infrastructure professionals, implementing critical network projects and providing technical expertise to help maintain a stable, scalable, and secure environment for everyone.

Key Responsibilities
As a Network Infrastructure Specialist at Global, your responsibilities will encompass several key areas:

  • Innovate with Leading Technology (20%): You will be actively involved in our network evolution, working with the latest technologies from our key vendors, including Juniper, Arista, and Cisco. Your strong knowledge of advanced networking concepts, such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and Multicast, will be essential as you contribute to the robust infrastructure that underpins all Global's services.
  • Support and Protect (20%): You will support the full lifecycle of our network services, from performance to security. This includes managing our firewall estate, handling complex incidents, and conducting root cause analysis. You will contribute to improving incident response procedures.
  • Incident Response: Supporting escalation of faults, providing detailed feedback during incidents, and assisting with mitigation of attacks to protect our services.
  • Change Management: Managing changes in a structured manner and participating in peer reviews and approvals.
  • Problem Management: Conducting hands-on troubleshooting to find the root cause and diagnose issues for any incidents, and ensuring clear communication is delivered to the business via post-incident reviews.
  • Collaboration (20%): Your role is built on partnerships; you will work directly alongside software developers and broadcast engineers to support the technical delivery of projects. This collaboration extends to providing specialist-level support and technical guidance.

What You'll Love About This Role

  • Think Big: Your impact will directly underpin our national broadcast and advertising platforms along with our Global Player app.
  • Own It: End-to-end responsibility for the networks you design and build.
  • Keep It Simple: You will be encouraged to think creatively and implement streamlined, repeatable processes to solve complex problems.
  • Better Together: You will be part of a collaborative team and will build effective working relationships throughout the business.

What Success Looks Like
In your first few months, you'll have:

  • Reviewed and Understood the Core Architecture: Completed a comprehensive review of the network topology and traffic flows, identifying key areas for improvement in performance, security, and scalability.
  • Become Familiar with Technical Standards: Mastered all network documentation and begun to contribute to improving gaps, helping to maintain quality and accuracy standards.
  • Understood Monitoring and Alerting: Mastered our full suite of monitoring tools and contributed to optimisations to improve proactive fault detection and alerting.
  • Established Working Relationships with Vendors: Built effective technical relationships with key vendors like Check Point, Juniper and Arista, participating in escalation calls and supporting the resolution of complex issues.
  • Built Strong Relationships: Developed working relationships with the infrastructure team and key business stakeholders, understanding their challenges and contributing to solutions that support their goals.
