SENCO – Al-Khair Secondary School (Part Time, 2 Days/Week)
Al-Khair Secondary School is seeking an experienced and dedicated SENCO to lead the development and provision of special educational needs (SEN) across the secondary school. You will have strategic oversight of SEN policy, coordinate day-to-day provision, and provide professional guidance to staff, working closely with parents/carers and external agencies to ensure all pupils with SEN or a disability achieve their full potential.
Job Description:
Under the direction of the Head Teacher, the SENCO will lead the strategic and operational development of SEN provision. Responsibilities include maintaining the SEND register, analysing assessment data, delivering interventions, liaising with external agencies, supporting staff development, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. The SENCO will promote inclusion across the school and contribute to whole-school improvement.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements :
- Lead and monitor the quality of SEN provision and contribute to school self-evaluation
•Ensure the SEN policy is implemented and reflected in the school improvement plan
Maintain accurate SEND records and provision maps
Provide guidance on teaching pupils with SEN and the graduated approach
Manage resources and budgets effectively to meet pupil needs
Liaise with external agencies, educational psychologists, and local authorities
Analyse pupil data and evaluate intervention effectiveness
Support smooth transitions for pupils and promote inclusion in curriculum and extracurricular activities
Identify staff training needs and lead INSET sessions
Promote an ethos and culture that supports SEN policy and good outcomes for pupils
Any other duties commensurate with the accountabilities of the post
Essential Skills and Qualifications :
National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete within 3 years)
Degree
• Sound knowledge of the SEND Code of PracticeUnderstanding of quality first teaching and effective interventions
Data analysis skills to inform provision planning
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and record-keeping skills
Ability to influence, negotiate, and build effective relationships
Personal Qualities:
Commitment to achieving the best outcomes for pupils with SEN or a disability
Alignment with the ethos and values of the school
Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
Commitment to confidentiality, safeguarding, and equality
Minimum Years of Experience Required :
- 3 years' experience in teaching and working at a whole-school level, including SEN coordination experience
Working Pattern :
Full time/Part time
Onsite role
Preferred Languages or Other Specific Criteria (if any) :
English fluency required
Additional languages relevant to the pupil community are an advantage
