We are looking for a Head of Student Records on a fixed term contract basis until the end of July 2026.

The role will act as the business owner for the Student Records System, ensuring that system development and enhancements meet business needs and acceptance criteria, working in collaboration with IT colleagues. The post holder will lead a team responsible for the day-to-day management and accuracy of the student and curriculum record, supporting module set-up and changes to student records. The postholder will also oversee data quality and analysis to inform institutional reporting and decision-making.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Defining and communicating business requirements for system improvements, ensuring delivery meets agreed acceptance criteria.
  • Managing a team responsible for day-to-day student and curriculum record maintenance.
  • Overseeing the set-up of new modules and module diets within the student records system.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely changes to student records in response to academic and administrative requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining governance processes to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Analysing student and curriculum record data to identify trends and support institutional reporting.

The successful candidate will have experience managing student records or data systems within a higher education context, preferably SITS. You will have strong knowledge of student information systems and database management, and proven ability to manage and develop a team effectively. You will have experience in liaising between business users and IT/development teams, along with a good understanding of academic regulations and their impact on student records.

The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
