Basic hours are four days a month. This is usually in the form of one day a week (same day or flexible weekly can be discussed), and occasional holiday cover. For the right candidate these hours will increase.

Typical day starts 8am and finishes 4.30pm. Occasional afternoon shifts starting approx 1pm finishing approx 9pm may be required. We operate 7 days a week.

Your role involves day to day animal care of a variety of species, and assisting with animal encounters with the other Creature Teachers. We visit a diverse range of settings including schools, nursing homes, nurseries, birthday parties etc.

This is a self employed role, rate starts at National Minimum Wage and increases as your competence and responsibility develop. The self employed aspect of the job does not mean that you have to drum up bookings for the business. Being self employed means that it is your responsibility to set up an account with the HMRC, so that you can declare your earnings and pay your tax and NI on what you have earned through your work here, yourself.

Car & drivers license is required.

Experience working with animals is also required, either through educational courses, professionally, or through volunteer work. Training will be given, experience lets us know that you are serious about working with animals. Experience working with children or the elderly is also an advantage.

You must be over 18 years of age.

You must have a love of animals and the ability to share this knowledge confidently to a range of audiences.

This is a physically and mentally challenging role. You will be working inside and outdoors, in all weathers, cleaning enclosures, carrying transport boxes, and a great attention to detail is a must.
