Interim Director of Retail (6-month contract)

Location: Flexible with regular travel across our retail network

Contract: Interim, 4-5 days per week (6 months)

£56,700 - £69,300 per annum / pro rata

The Children's Society has been helping children and young people in this country for over 130 years. We run local services that support children when they are at their most vulnerable and in desperate need of help. We're there for children, every step of the way.

This role sits within our Social Impact Group and as our Interim Director of Retail, you'll play a critical leadership role during a period of transition and opportunity. You'll provide strategic oversight and operational leadership across our national retail network, supporting performance, safeguarding, and team wellbeing while preparing the function for ambitious growth.

You'll lead the development of a new growth strategy following a strategic review, and support change activity. You'll represent Retail at senior leadership level and work closely with the Executive Director of Social Impact, line managing the Senior Retail Management, and working with the wider senior leadership to ensure the retail function is ready to thrive.

In order to be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Substantial experience in charity retail leadership, ideally including interim or transitional roles
  • Proven ability to lead large, dispersed teams through change with confidence and credibility
  • Strong strategic and commercial acumen, with a track record of driving performance and growth
  • Experience in safeguarding oversight and compliance across retail operations
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills

The Children's Society runs over 100 local services that help thousands of young people who desperately need our support, and we campaign to get laws and policies changed to make children's lives happier and safer.

Every day we're changing the lives of children in this country for the better – and with your help, tomorrow we can be there for even more.

The Children's Society is committed to safeguarding and protecting the children and young people that we work with. As such, all posts are subject to a safer recruitment process, including the disclosure of criminal records and vetting checks. We ensure that we have a range of policies and procedures in place which promote safeguarding and safer working practices across our services.

The closing date for applications is midnight on 22nd October 2025

Interviews will be held on 30th October 2025
